New Addition
Well I decided to buy a duece. I've been looking for awhile but kept putting off because I'm deep into a M-37 project. Anyways I've been following the gov auctions and noticed that these are starting to dry up and eventually I would have to buy from a dealer or private party if I wanted one. This truck is coming out of an Air Force base where I was once stationed. Now all I have to do is wait for the EUC paperwork to come back before I recover it. I'll post more pictures in the future when I get it home.
Re: New Addition
welcome to the party! And a dropside, nice. Is it one of the low mileage trucks?

Re: New Addition
Floyd,
I didn't realize you have a A2c too. Didn't you get a M36 initially?

Where will you go to fill the tank, Russia, Poland, Czech Republic? How much is the price for Diesel over there, how much is customs plus VAT? Tonight I paid 1.469 Euro/Liter. Yesterday, Sunday, it was 1.569 Euro/Liter . 10 Cent in one day Is there a second tanker available? The oil companies and gamblers are driving me crazy.

Re: New Addition
It has 5,187.8 mile on it with 248.7 hours on the meter. I'm sure it's lower than the average USA or USMC vehicles but that's because they actually use their trucks.Horst wrote:welcome to the party! And a dropside, nice. Is it one of the low mileage trucks?
Already started my search and found one on craigslist for a far price in the same area as the truck. Hopefully it will stil be available when my paperwork comes back.Floyd wrote:Congratulations Tim, good looking Duece. I guess the 105 is next?

Re: New Addition
Hey Montana: You got a brand new truck. I knew the 105 would follow, you’re fast.
Horst: You have a good memory, that M36 was sweet. Just like Tim’s in the 5000 mile range. It took congressional intervention to get my M35 but I lost (GL) the M36 in the hassle. Tell us more about that tanker, it be a good one to restore.

Re: New Addition
from my car in the background you guys know where in CA it is...
It is a M49, so with the LDS engine, non-turbo. I have to say, other than the missing whistle, no big difference to a turbo. It was rebuild in Barstow as late as 1994 and since then accumulated 800 miles. A police department had it when it got sold a couple of years ago. Since then nobody took care of it until I motivated my friend to register it. It would need some TLC, apparently it has dents all around from people driving it into something, but everything else is pretty ok.
Not very practical however. And I have no desire to be pulled over by the CHP. It has weird paperwork. So I took it only for a few spins around the airport, had not the balls yet to drive it to Starbucks downtown.

Re: New Addition
So I'm still waiting for the EUC approval but in the meantime I contacted the DRMO that is holding my truck to see if I could drop by to see what I really bought sight unseen. After playing phone tag with the guy, we discussed my chances of seeing the truck. He told me no problem and I asked if I could bring a couple batteries with me to see if it will start. He told me that there is a standing rule that no maintenance can be performed on the lot. However, in the next breath he told me bring some batteries and he'd let me swap them out. So after checking the oil and swapping the batteries I had the guy crank it over. The truck started up without any problems and the air system worked as advertised. He told me the truck was driven onto the lot and they have been sitting for over a year before being put on the auction block. Before I left I walked around the truck to inventory any goodies that may have come with it. I found it had a complete set of tire chains in the back, all the bows with extras, a winter front, jack, tire servicing kit, tool bag with tools, and locks with keys. The truck even has a 1/2 tank of fuel. I'm more excited about the truck now and feel like a kid waiting for Christmas morning.
BTW the dead batteries in the truck are optima red tops. Hopefully I'll be able to shock them back to life.
