MX2799 "shoebox" antenna tuner
I am considering mounting one on the MX 2799 "shoe box" tuners on the AB449 "spare tire mount," on my M38. I am going to be mounting the VRC12 radio system in it. Anyone know anything about them? A source? Are they as reliable as the MX 6707 ? Pros-Cons?

Re: MX2799 "shoebox" antenna tuner
If you have a box-base tuner (MX-2799), make sure you have the antenna pieces to go with it. You'll need Element AT-1096/VRC (the lower half) along with Element AT-1095/VRC (the upper half).ohiomgman wrote:I am considering mounting one on the MX 2799 "shoe box" tuners on the AB449 "spare tire mount," on my M38. These are sometimes very difficult to find and you can't use the lower antenna element from the MX-6707 setup because the thread of the MX-2799 is different. (though the AT-1095/VRC top section is the same for both antenna bases).

When your buying the Antenna Sections make sure to ask if lower is made with the metal threaded end stay away from the Bakalite, plastic or fiberglass dont know what the material is but its not very reliable. Scott O&O

Can you post photos? My friend Rich is mounting a 524 in his M38 and we need to get the 6707 mount issue overcome.
Thanks Steve

Re: MX2799 "shoebox" antenna tuner
Here is how I mounted my "shoebox" antenna tuner onto my MP50 antenna mt. It is much more solid than the "spare tire mount," where I mounted my AB-15 antenna for the R442 radio.

You are going to have to get a bigger spring for that side! Those welds could use a little more heat.

Must be when my mommiy dropped me on the head...all those times...rickf wrote:You are going to have to get a bigger spring for that side! Those welds could use a little more heat.
