Civvy Radio in RT-524
I have an unserviceable Rt-524, it's gutted as well as me cutting out some more castings. I have a Civilian AM/FM CD MP3 car stereo. I want to mount this on the pass rear fender. I will post build pics.
Questions: Does the rubber isolators actually isolate the radio from vehicle ground? Or is it just for vibration dampening? I ask because I don't have mine yet.
I need to isolate this 12V radio from the 24V NEG ground. Yea I cooked a few radios that way in my old wreckers. Back then I made a wooden box, but this time I plan on using cutting board material to mount the box if I need to.
I have a 6 X 9 Speaker that will face up on the top of the radio, and I also want the lamps to illuminate on the face.

Re: Civvy Radio in RT-524
hello
the radio has his ground in the cable not from the chassis
you can use a 24v to 12v 3 to 5 amps converter inside the rt housing
if sent sent this the real thing from a CD

THANK YOU cstaup!
This thread is about EXACTLY what I want to do to simulate VN radio traffic for displays, etc. I will likely make mine more enclosed, with an MP# player to provide the sound loop.
And thank you very much, George, for the sound clip links! I have been searching for some of those for a while, unsuccessfully.

I read somewhere about a guy that put everything inside and just hinged the top with se internal hinges. He also installed some of those pistons to help rasw the cover.

I thought about that, but this one came with a remote so I can "flip" through the channels to find the the talk radio stations.

Re: Civvy Radio in RT-524
Nice work Cstaup, thats a fine job How does it sound while driving, especially with no top and all that quiet noise that our mutts put out on the road? Can you really hear is well? Do you have a provision for headphones or ear buds? It would be nice to have tunes while driving, I have just been using my IPod.
