M151A2 fuel level sensor
Some time ago I purchased a fuel level sensor and I'm now ready to install in my tank. When I opened the box, I was suprised to fine the Potentiometer unprotected and mounted directly in the fuel. I would assume that the fuel mixture would allways be to rich to cause a fire or explosion but still its a little un nevering sitting on a tank of fuel with a possible source of ignition. Saturn Surplus has what appears to be a similiar unit that has a metal cover. The original I removed has a shaft driven potentionmeter that is mounted out of the fuel on top of the tank. Any thought on the use of this type of fuel level sensor?

This is a picture of the one mentioned in my previous post that is available from Saturn surplus. It looks a lot more robust in its construction but still has the potienometer mounted directly in the fuel.

Does it have a part or NSN number on it All the take out and correct USGI ones that I have seen looked like the rusty one in your top photo.

Here is the label on the box that the float sensor came in.
Re: M151A2 fuel level sensor
I took my tank out yesterday.. replaced in tank filter and found my sending unit has no float on it..
You still have your old float? I could put it to good use.. my unit looks like this one pictured...
Or I was thinking about just a piece of wood dallrod
cut a groove in it and pop it on the float rod..
any way. if you still have one and dont need.. Ill pay to get it here..
Thanks

Re: M151A2 fuel level sensor
I bought one like that from Saturn as well. Thought it looked a bit strange as well, but it came in a legit govt box.
Died within a few weeks of installing it
No idea what killed it.
I ended up doing the Wiki Sender Mod to my old one and fired it back in. Aside from on spot near empty where the needle goes Bermuda Triangle, it actually works great.
Regardless, I still look in the tank from time to time.

hate to say it guys. I open up the fuel cap and lean over to check it. An old 63B trick.
