Engine Details

Unread post by Cobra5 » January 13th, 2008, 12:22 pm

Hey Guys,

This may seem  but I want to make sure I get it right. Is there a correct way to postion the EPA sticker on the valve cover? How is it oriented in regards to reading it. Is it suppose to be readable from the right side of the engine or left side?

Thanks!

Tim

BTW I'm looking in the manual for torque values on the timing cover, harmonic balancer, and cooling fan.

Mr. Recovery.

It goes back to Bob Amon's extremely rare red oil fill cap over at the G. For a while, any time we saw a red part, it was referred to as an "Amon conversion".

Hey Rick, you are the only one that found it... :P
By the way. the engine works, and it works fine with this firing order...After a wrong assembly of the oil pump-shaft,i have only one solution, to cut 45degrees the stick under distributer.

I have an engine with the same setup! Someone put the pump in wrong so instead of pulling the motor they knocked the pin out of the distributer shaft, turned the rotor to line up with number one on the cap and redrilled and pinned the shaft.

OK, somebody tell me when engines are supposed to be greeen, and when they are supposed to be black.....Both of my engines I have for the 60 mutt project have black valve covers and no sign of being green in that department... One is an A2 motor, other is a 63 151 motor.. ..The 63 motor seems to be green below the head area......

Is it factory was green, rebuilds were black?

Sure is pretty , even if the firing order was changed...
Projects, anyone?

I know that others have a different opinion but I believe there is no general rule. Most rebuilds seem to be green, a lot of factory ones seem to be black. However in my 151, the factory engine is (was) green, the rebuild I have in there now is green. The batch of A1 rebuild engines mine is coming from had pretty thick green paint over everything including carb, distributor etc. Now engines were coming from all kind of different rebuild shops and when new, from different sources.

my understanding was that the early M151 and A1 went both ways, some new engines were black and some were green. The A2's new engines were black and rebuilds were green. My A2 has the black factory engine, and my spare engine is a rebuild done in 86 and its green.
Best way to tell on older mutts is look for the rebuild tag riveted to the side of the engine.

You know the army policy on things when you're a boot and they hand you a spray gun, "if it don't move, paint it, if it does move, salute it" :D
