My heater has a strong air flow at the defroster. I especially like the round air duct above the gas pedal. Close this and see if your defroster air flow improves.

Might be time to try an engine/cooling system flush? Rust and precipitates seem to love to clog up the heater core. The heater core I took out of my Mutt was full of some gunky crap that smelled awful. I backflushed my cooling system and it is working properly now, with a new heater assy install, which is in the last stages.

I mportant tip.....When routing the cross tube behind the speepo cluster...there is no need to fight the choke...just unhook it and pull back thru firewall ...install cross tube to a point which it lays nice ....then just jab the choke cable thru it and back thru the fie wall....this lets both lay in a good position....and eliminates a bunch of headache...

ohiomgm--this is a nos heater i recently installed, and the engine and radiator are clean and flushed with fresh antifreeze--remove the radiator cap and watch the coolant flow--temp on the gauge says around 190--all the usual stuff checks out, i even replaced the thermostat--no change, wasted money. even with both floor vents closed, defroster air flow is not strong--good thing i don't live where there is actual winter--i just put the heater in to keep the windshield from fogging.

199, I installed my heater kit last fall. The air flow volume at the defroster vents isn't that strong on mine either. The floor vents have plenty of volume. The defroster seems to get the job done, although I try to avoid driving on salted roads, so I'm not out in the really cold weather that often.

67mutt, i guess that's one of the FEW advantages of living in calif--no winter and no salted roads--my wife and i are both from the east, and we miss the fall.
but i don't miss being elbow deep in snow and 40 below. it's funny to watch the local news people warning us about how cold it's going to get, get your parkas and sweaters etc., when they're talking about rain and 40 degrees above zero.

I just finished the heater install up ...complete...tonight. That is like taking a stompin from Gojiro! Makes lots of heat and you could warm your hands up from the defrosters. I hope it was worth it. I have meat missing from both hands. Trying to reach up under the cowl...and do the install...Is like working on the float in your toilet tank by reaching up through the bowl. NEVER AGAIN!

I have always enjoyed reading the dialogue on this site and have always been content to read only until the mention of the ominous M151 heater installation.
With the exception of the master cylinder (depending on which side of the body hurts less), there is no greater pain than the installation of the heater kit. It is, quite simply, harder than Chinese arithmetic.
In spite of the love and affection I have for all military vehicles and the fact that there are few things I enjoy more than working on my M151, I can think of a few things I would rather do than install another heater kit:
1. Go to another book signing with my wife
2. Get my teeth cleaned
3. Paint the stairwell ceiling
4. Watch 10 back to back episodes of Oprah
5. Go to the DMV
6. Do my taxes
7. Wait in traffic
8. Iron clothes
9. Stand in formation
10. Jump with a M240

Putting a heater in an M151 is like getting an "M1 Thumb"... It hurts so bad... it is like being tortured for state secrets. All the jumping up and down seems to help...but the heater just sits there laughing at you. There must be a voodoo curse, put on every box, those heater kits are packed up into....
You left out being probed analy by your doctor with a TV camera.
I try not to think of it ...anymore....
