Windshield Pin Does not Align? Any adjustments?

Unread post by russnj » March 31st, 2009, 10:17 pm

Hi All
I am trying to figure out the best way to "adjust" my windshield to get the drivers side pin to line up with my replacement windshield.
Any ideas on how best to get the windshield to line up correctly? Also the passenger side lines up fine. I have tried to push the windshield back but it seems too far out of alignment with the passenger side. See the pictures below.

Thanks Russ

There isn't an adjustment that I know of. I recommend pulling back on that side while inserting the pin. If an adjustment from there is required I'd recommend using a hammer.

Agree with mrdribbles: Just give some tough love. Your MUTT can take the pressure and some blunt force trauma ... But it does look as if something is off set. From the looks of Pic #2: The canvas door tracking doesn't look like it’s going to line up if it did go down all the way. Could be my eyes or just the way I see the Photo. If you can’t force it a bit to get it to go in…..I would suggest removing the windshield cowl rubber strip and see If the pins line up with it removed. That should tell you if you need to take a hammer to the hinges or not.

Good Luck

OK, send in the SEABEE with a hammer. I knew this opportunity would come up for a simple solution , right Rick? Seabee

Seabee's with hammers, YUP. Seabee's with hammers adjusting windshield mounts? I don't think so! Can I make it fit? Sure Sarge, hold my cover and watch this.
Russ, Make sure you have all A2 mounts first. If you do then something is bent somewhere. It can be a bear getting the gasket compressed but if it fits right in on one side and not on the other then you have other issues.

Rick, i thought this would get your attention. This would be a quick fix, but I was sure you had the right answer for Russ. Seabee

is that a hexhead I see under the rubber cowl gasket ? I thought the inside of the hinge bracket was held secure with a tapered flathead bolt.

looks that way to me too, the hex head bolt appears to be whats keeping the frame from lowering any further...

Ok here was the problem, rick was right on.

The drivers side had this type of upper hinge.

And the passenger side had this type of upper hinge.

So now I am looking for a correct A2 drivers side upper windshield hinge, anybody have one? Are they the same from drivers to passenger side?

thanks

Looks like you found the culprit. The hinges should be left/right interchangeable for an A2.

Hey Russ, I know you are looking for a new hinge but I am not so sure about that. Those hinges have not been touched for at least 26 paint jobs so I would think they are right. Just measure from one of the bolts to the pin hole and compare. Someone else mentioned about the hex head bolts and I had not noticed them before. Those body side hinges are supposed to be held with tapered screws which sit flush with the hinge. I would check to see if the bolt heads are what is holding you up.

Ok, I took an A2 hinge off my extra windshield and here's what it looks like compared to the one from the misaligned windshield
The A2 one is on the left and the other one is on the right.

I would bet that wherever that windshield came from there is a mutt with an A1 and an A2 windshield body side mount on it! That mount looked like it had been there for many years.
