I ordered a top from them for my M-38. The fit was perfect and it looked great...however at the end of the summer after plenty of rain and several washings it had shrank about 2" across and I don't know how much long wise...I called them and they said they knew they would shrink. I asked why not make them a little big and they would shrink to fit...reply was they had to fit perfect out of the box or customers would say they were too baggy...I don't remember having this problem with WEEBEE Webbing...good luck...PS I did not have doors or sides so it still looked ok...(The reason I bought from SC was Dave was backed up and couldn't ship for several weeks...I have bought four tops from dave and they were all Perfect and did not shrink...................)

I had a similar situation to the one HTN had, but the rest of my experience with Surplus City Canvas has been fine.

You could try WEEBEE like HTN mentioned, i think i like them a little better. You'll find them listed as "OD Cloth", they have a lot of good stuff for several different military vehicles: http://www.odcloth.com/products.html

I would recommend weebee webbing first, then new life canvas second, beachwood canvas third.

I have a weebee webbing 151 complete canvas set I am less than impressed with. Not accurate in the reproduction and unsightly "sharpie" instructions written where the straps are located and the assembly instructions visable when installed. Windows are unprofessional and look ratty. I did buy the set 1 yr old, but it was ratty and poorly made from the factory, not the previous owner. No zippers on the drivers door...etc. I like Dave P, but his work on this set is shameful. Hand to God.

I'm enjoying the discussion. First time I've ever heard negative comments about the canvas makers. Makes me happy about keeping my vinyl top. It has kept its shape for several years. It has always been kept in the garage.
The NOS sides and doors don't match the top's color. There is still remnants of a white powder on the top's rear window. This was apparently a preservative.

Did some research on canvas tops.
I was told by one source that their canvas tops were patterned after the "latest AMG specification. This apparnetly meant single layer construction and unfinished seams around windows similar to what you see on a vinyl top. This is okay on vinyl but kind of funky on canvas.

Another source said that they produced their canvas tops the same as original . That means two layers of material with all edges turned in and finished. I was considering buying another but have held off and am now riding around with two shades of vinyl.

The moral of the story, dont buy anything unless you are certain of what you are getting or because they are "Good Guys!!
