You never know what you will find...........End of story!

Unread post by rickf » March 12th, 2009, 7:36 pm

I decided to tear into the mutt yesterday. I knew the fenders had plastic in them and I wanted to get rid of it and rework the fenders correctly. What I did not know was how much plastic! That stack of pennies is actually flush with the top of the plastic! Man that was a lot of grinding and chiseling. Now comes the fun part, shrinking it back into shape.

Hmmmm if that jeep started out in N.E. Ohio I would swear it was a Ric Long job.
There is one nut on a M151 that is very difficult to remove.....

Rick

When I first saw the heading for this thread and on seeing the first photo, I thought you were going to say you found a stack of ten dollar gold (my niece "adjusted" the color on my monitor and I haven't set it back to its default settings) coins stashed somewhere.

Hey Dan, That is exactly why I got into this now. Now the big question. What do you do for the raised and reinforced boss for the A1 turn signal?

Make it two.

The other fender is no better but I am not going to touch that one until this one is finished. Aberdeen is getting close!

Why not just get some replacement panels from TNJ's?

A little more expensive, but wouldn't it be easier?

I'm getting ready to do some body repair and this topic came at just the right time.

I didn't know which way to go as far as bondo vs. hammering, vs. weld grinding, vs. replacing the panels and fenders.

Instead of posting a ton of pictures I will put in a lint to them. Eric, I have about 5 hours into this now and I could put the plastic on now. I am within 1/8" everywhere but I want to get rid of some of the dings that were there before I put the plastic on. I only want to have to put a skim coat on. If I were to replace the fenders I would want to do the inner fender panels at the same time and nobody is making them.

Tell Spence he needs to start making those and also the inner fender panels. Mine are rusted at the bottom and I would hate to go to all the trouble to weld new fenders to rusted fenderwells.

Time to give that hunk of metal to me Rick and buy a good one from DiamondJim, Rumor has it he has one that can drive cross country with no engine problems, and no plastic in the fenders! :) You don't need a jeep you have to work on, you've reached that time in live where it's time to sit back and relax. Dump that zero, and buy a hero M151 Mr F.! :D

Hell, I have to put Diamondjims together before he can drive it! With all of the NOS stuff on that mutt I could NEVER afford it plus I don't think he ever plans to sell it.
