Re: What vehicle is this?
Thats a WWII MB or GPW Jeep. Patton used to send jeeps out to recon where enemy lines were "just drive up that road til you get shot at" so GI's being resourceful as they were started adding some armour to the scout jeeps. A common field mod at the time. There were M151's armored like that during the viet nam war as well...

Looks like a Raid GPW. I think these were used on the African Front. I think not sure.

Re: What vehicle is this?
Is there something wrong with the head lights or is that a cover?
Did the GPW's, a vehicle similar to the M151( see Jim, M151 related), not have black out capabilities?

There were front headlight covers for the MB/GPW during WW2, and yes they had blackout capability. Some of our allies such as the English and Australians used to put "eyebrows" on the headlights so they could be used during blackout conditions.

The armor was a field mod performed by the 82nd Airborne during 1944 while in the Ardennes, Belgium. here's a couple more pics, one from a museum, one from back in the day....

Leave it to MUTTvet to slip bad words into a post. With a comment painted over the right rear tire like that, I'd expect it to have "grown a pair" like Jay's jeep!! Don't speak french huh MUTTvet? I can teach you to read chinese

You ever see anyone riding on open vehicles in the winter nowadays? These guys had it a lot tougher than we ever did! My father in law was in Patton's infantry in the battle of the Bulge. I will have to show him these pictures. He may even know one of those guys!

Re: What vehicle is this?
I think I'm pushing it just a bit, but in a few days I'll take my jpg down so it isn't on permanent record, if it isn't pulled before I get to it. No harm done, and hopefully a smile here and there. If that as bad as it gets, it's because were in here with a good bunch of guys!

I have never deleted a post in my position as moderator, (other than some of the hardcore porn that used to come up daily before Jim changed some of the criteria that makes it harder to join this group unless you are an actual human being) but that one is borderline and makes me uncomfortable. That being said, I have saved it to a file on my computer.

I think it is acceptable and should remain posted by virtue of the fact that it is a historical recreation of an actual vehicle used in combat. I have seen other such colorful language and artwork on vehicles and aircraft during wartime. As such it is part of the history of the armed forces and the men who made those forces up. I was talking about Rainman's picture of how to read Chinese. I think it is borderline. I will leave it up but just ask that it not get any worse. On the other hand, it is also extremely funny. I saved it to my hard drive and will print it out and pass it around at the Clarksville Boat Club this evening. To tell you the truth, the only reason I became a moderator is because Jim asked for some help eliminating some of the spam we were getting so much of when this site first opened. I haven't seen any need to moderate since, as we seem to be fairly good at policing ourselves.
