MX-7777 question

I installed radios in my mutt and as recently seen that I think I should have install a MX-7777 suppressor which I did not do at the time. I have found a MX-7777 and some cables but to install all of that now would require rerouting cables and acquiring new ones. Before I do that, do I really need this device?? I have read that it may have only been necessary for armored vehicles. Any opinions?

It is a suppressor intended to protect the radio against spikes, If you follow the advice of keeping the radio turned off when starting the vehicle then it is probably not necessary. If, like me, you use the radio rarely and then only when it is stationary, there should not be a need for it. Having said all that, if you have the MX-7777 and have a lot of spare time one day then you might as well fit it.

all our jeeps and V100s in the nam ran 524s without suppressors. i also had a 524 in my own A1 series, and they worked fine. turn them off before shutting down, turn them on after starting.

Thanks for the input guys. I've decided not to install the MX-7777, big hassle rerunning power cables etc., especially since everything has already been routed and hooked up and working.
BTW, Fair Radio is permanently closing the end of December.
