this is me learning how to sling load. Lifting an IBC with around 1000 pounds of water, so the trailer would be not problem. The 151 is slightly above the lifting capabilities of this particular helicopter.

Interesting on your picture that they seem to have jerry cans on the rear of the trailer.

416B1 trailers for the Marines most likely. The attaching points also appear to be the B1 attaching points on the cross bars under the frame. The standard 416 did not have those points. The Marines always carried extra fuel and water.

151s in the pictures are not Marines. They are slinged at the wheel hubs in this case.

I think you will find that most of the later 151s all had the eyelet style hubs, Marines included. Probably more of a consolidation of parts thing than anything else since they were already transitioning to the Hummer by then. But that trailer is definitely a Marine trailer with the Marine lifting brackets. When did Blackhawks come into full service?

Would an Army helo lift a Marines jeep? :)

Maybe to accidentally hit the release button…

Or to reserve many future favors. I can remember that as an Airborne infantry unit we made a lot of "Beverage" runs for the Marines into FOB's. In return we got a LOT of spare ammo that they tended to hoard by the ton. Never asked how or where they got it all. At least when we couldn't get it through our normal black market channels when the MP's would spook them off. Thanks Ron.   The military told us we could only carry 200 rounds out on patrol, yea, right, they were not the ones out there in the jungle!!! So we traded for ammo on the black market that they had stolen from the ammo depots. The ironic part was that we were trading booze and cigarettes that was stolen from the officers supplies. Yup, the same officers that said only 200 rounds. See a vicious circle here? From talking to some guys from later conflicts I guess some things never change.

rick, that actually surprises me. we had four line battalions, and i have seen them load up for the field. there was never any restriction on their basic load. if they could carry it, they could have it. we had all the ammo we wanted as well. the black market stuff was handled by other MPs. we just did convoy escort and road patrol. the rear floor of this gun jeep was solidly packed with M60 ammo. patterson is the guy in this pic. we were checking ID cards on hwy 20 in long khanh province when these two walked up out of the bush behind us.

I guess it depended on company command. BII load out was 200 rounds so that was what most allowed, especially later on when I was in.
