Battery terminal's very hot
Anyone ever touched their batteries posts. ?? Mine were ready to melt it seems. (fire no good). I wonder if my 60 amp alt. is charging too much. ???

Re: Battery terminal's very hot
TM tells how to check and adjust voltage. Just did the process on my A2.

Take them off, clean them and reinstall. They are most likely dirty. Also check charging voltage and make sure it is no more than 28 volts.

Re: Battery terminal's very hot
Will do, the terminals were not tight at the battery's. I wonder if this was the issue... I will test the 60 amp Generator and see the output. Thanks Guys. I love this site for us die hard m-151 fans. Cheers.
I wonder if folks don't ever touch the Battery Terminals often...Me ? I always take the the wires off, after I am done playing. Only because it might me a few month before I start it again.

An inexpensive battery disconnect switch will save you a lot of work and headaches.

Re: Battery terminal's very hot
Loose, or corroded battery terminals = resistance.
Resistance creates heat.
Resistance creates heat.

Re: Battery terminal's very hot
hi
if you use the switch from the picture
look if the small termanals get open if the switch gets open
if so
take a dubbel wire from it to the alternator
put it between the connecter thin wire 568 alternator
this proteckt the alternator regulator if the switch is opend wen the engine runs
now the alternator stops working if open ( engine shut down also )

Re: Battery terminal's very hot
Glad you pointed that out George. I did not see that and have never seen that on a disconnect switch. i HAVE seen many fried alternators due to disconnect switches being shut off during running, same as pulling a battery terminal off to 'See if the alternator is good, it will keep running if it is". Yep it will, as it cooks the diodes and ruins the alternator. You always hear that line from old guys who used to do that with generators. Yes you can do it with a generator but NOT with an alternator.

hi
rickf
i use the one below for years now
https://races-shop.com/toggle-switches/ ... h-fia.html
normaly if the kilswitch is acsedently opend the engine runs with power from the alternator now it stops
there are two small switches one opens and the other closes if the switch is used

Re: Battery terminal's very hot
My disconnect switch is connected to the battery ground cable(which is a dozer on/off switch).right by the front of the passenger seat.I suppose a faulty/shorted ground switch would still complete the circuit to energize the circuits?

My Terminals are hot to the touch when the jeep is running.
Re: Battery terminal's very hot
Have you checked the charging voltage? And what is the condition of the batteries? Does the vehicle start normally without a jump?

Re: Battery terminal's very hot
hi
heat is alwais a resistance at a terminal
clean them no problems
it is the amps from starting
the law from Ohm U voltage = I amps x R resistance
W watt = U X I
736 Watt = 1 Hp
1,163 Watt [W] = 1 kcal/h

Re: Battery terminal's very hot
Are you still having this issue? If your running lead acid batteries, there could be a short in one of your battery plates. I just went through this yesterday on a battery in my car. All cells were charged and the car ran fine until I shut it off at the gas station and it wouldn't start. Had to have the wife bring my jump pack. She also told me I didn't have any turn signals on the way home. This is the 4th battery on 4 different vehicles in the past 3 years. One battery was only 6 months old so even new batteries can have this issue. If you have a load tester check each battery.
Re: Battery terminal's very hot
They don't make anything like they used to(made to last a life time!!)Yes I had a battery short out in the plates
