Re: M151 collection pictures
I was able to get over to the shop for a few minutes today and grabbed a few quick close up pictures of one of the FAVs. They are too big to show up completely at first, just have to click on them to get the full picture. I have the armor plate off this one while I am working on it because of its weight. When I have time to get it out of the building i can get better pictures. The hard top fav is in a box truck with a bunch of parts surrounding it right now so it might be a while before I can get more pictures of it.

Awesome. Thx!
Re: M151 collection pictures
I see the chain limiters on the back but none on the front and hence the front shocks appear to be blown out from overextending. The FAV idea is interesting but from a mechanics viewpoint they are a mechanical disaster just waiting to happen. The military did not care since it cost them nothing to fix them.

Re: M151 collection pictures
This is the first time I have seen the chain limiters. How common was it to add these to M151A1's in service or were they only added to A2's?
Has anyone added these to their M151?

Re: M151 collection pictures
They definitely were not well thought out. It’s tough to tell in the pictures, but the chains are on the front and none on the back. Doesn’t make a difference in the functionality, I just thought I would mention it. When driving it you can definitely tell the rear shocks are blown out. The big tires were also a somewhat bad decision in my mind, the mutt does not seem to like trying to turn those mud tires, but they were necessary for what the military needed them to do I guessrickf wrote:I see the chain limiters on the back but none on the front and hence the front shocks appear to be blown out from overextending. I believe it was just on the a2s that were converted to FAVs. I have seen a few people that have taken their standard ones and done the conversionSturmTyger380 wrote:This is the first time I have seen the chain limiters. Re: M151 collection pictures
I was just coming home earlier and since I live on just off of Range Road on Joint Base MDL I travel through the ranges and guess what I see? I group of the newest FAV's getting ready to shoot on the range. Run home and grab camera and run back to get pics before they start shooting. I brought up the site on my phone to show the range officer the pics of yours to show how it was done in our time. They all got a good laugh out of that. By the way, the new ones are highly modified Rayzers and they are FAST! I am cutting and stacking wood while I have light but I will put the pics up later this evening.

Re: M151 collection pictures
That’s pretty neat, I bet they did get a good laugh out of that. I have seen a few of those new FAVs and they are nice and seem much more fit for the job than the mutt, but for my purposes I would take the M151 all day over one of them
Re: M151 collection pictures
I put them in a separate thread. Here is a link to the pics.

Re: M151 collection pictures
Civilian owners....AND the military have tried to limit the rear-arm traverse by attaching chains and although I don't have a picture, I'm reliably informed that steel cable and tiedown strapping have also been used.SturmTyger380 wrote:This is the first time I have seen the chain limiters. These are pictures of M151/A1 rear ends.....I don't know of any A2s being modified in this way.

Kind regards....

Re: M151 collection pictures
The FAV are actually called CAV or Combat Assault Vehicles. I currently do not have a photo of my data plate but from what I understand I am the o ly one with an original data plate for these vehicles. I am getting spares made of them.
Re: M151 collection pictures
That’s an interesting bit of information, I had never heard them called that, but it makes sense that they would be. Neither of mine came with data plates on them. It would be interesting to see what the original plate looked like.Joe_rceme wrote:The FAV are actually called CAV or Combat Assault Vehicles. Re: M151 collection pictures
Muttguru has an original plate and I do not remember it having any designation of an assault vehicle on it. I am sure he will chime in with it.
