Flatties at the Field
Hi All,
New to this forum, but was encouraged to share this upcoming 2017 event.
June 17,2017: Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome, Rhinebeck NY
Trying to get as many jeeps as possible. Need more M151 representation. If you live close please contact me if you plan on attending. It's an event for all jeeps (not really just flat fenders). Willys MB, Ford GPW, CJ2A, 3A, 3B, M38, M151...going to be a blast.

You are aware that M-151's are generally frowned upon (quite literally) At most Jeep events aren't you? I would hate to see guys trailer or drive long distances for a bad experience.

Re: Flatties at the Field
Ricks right. I have entered mine in a few shows and parades. Mine always seems to be the "bastard child". When event organizers take photographs of the participants, my jeep is very rarely included.
On the 4th of July parade this year, I won 2nd place for the people's choice award, however the newspaper only showed WW2 jeeps and hotrods. When I asked the editor about the pictures (We know each other professionally), he told me the photographs were taken by a freelance photographer that was somehow connected to the event.
Don't expect any love from the WW2 guys.
I do get a kick out of the Vietnam Vets and the Desert Storm guys, they really do appreciate the fact we keep these odd jeeps going. Especially after they have watched 30+ GPW/MB jeeps drive past them decorated as 101 AB and with more crap hanging on them then a Christmas tree.... Then my jeep, usually the only M151, drives by with an M16 in the rack and they realize they have not been forgotten.
I believe we will have a recognized place in these events in the future. It will take time.

First off, welcome to the site and thank you for the invite. While I'm sure there are guys out there that act as both of you have described, they fact is (as stated below) everything has it's cycle. When is the last time you saw the Model A club around? It's now the muscle car guys. The jeeps / 1/4 tons will do the same. Now that parts are available more will be coming out of the wood work! If mine were done for this event (I doubt it will be) I would have no problem taking it regardless of what someone else's opinion about it is.

Re: Flatties at the Field
I only said this because the original poster also put up another post looking for a m-151, any type, to buy. He is not at all familiar with them so he is probably also not familiar with the fact that they are not Jeeps and are actually Fords. He is probably also not familiar with the fact that they are not even allowed in the Jeep reunion in Pa. every year. No, Jeep (with a capital J) people do not recognize the M-151. I have been to my share of shows where I am left to my own resources and nobody will talk to me only because of what I drive. You walk over to the main group of people and it gets real quiet and everybody stares at their shoes. On two occasions I have gone to the registration desk and asked for my money back and left. I told them that they invited me only to shun me when I got there. They should have paid for my gas money also. One group did offer to pay for my gas but I declined. I told them to educate their members with that money.
With that all said there are people in the M-151 family that are no better, How many times have you heard someone say derogatory things about an Encore? And I am not talking about one that is being passed off as a M-151. I have heard members on here say that an Encore is a piece of crap, they are no good, they are wannabee's. I have been at shows where there was an Encore and heard 151 owners put it down. I hate to hear that because of all people we should know better but some don't.

Re: Flatties at the Field
Hi All,
I would like to clear some misinformation up.
Thank you to the person who welcomed me to this site. I apologize for taking so long to check back. Work keeps me busy. I work full time at my local Air Guard base.
I know nothing of this resentment that some have mentioned between jeeps like the MB and the M151. To me it's just another quarter ton vehicle. And a cool looking one at that.
I am the person putting on this show in June 2017, and I would be more than happy to have anyone come with their M151. If anyone has a problem with that they can talk to me. This show is about the beauty of the old time jeeps. Be they MB's/GPW's, CJ3B's or Mutts. All are welcome!
After the show, I'm even planning a scenic convoy around the back roads of the Rhinebeck-Red Hook area.
Please, if you can make this event, please come with your jeep. You are definitely welcome, and wanted.
If you plan on coming please RSVP.
My email is: alankordzikowski@yahoo.com and my cell is 845-594-4661. The more the merrier!

Now THAT is different! You will see what I mean though, there is a definite division of classes.
3 1/2 hour drive for me, is there any camping on site?

Re: Flatties at the Field
Alan, Rhinebeck is a beautiful area, I bought my Camo 151A2 from a Doctor in the area, drove up from Va. Beach with a trailer and brought her home. Would love to attend but its a bit far for me but will see how the summer shapes up. Wishing you much success with the event! Any idea of how many MV you might expect to attend?
1976 M151A2 4 Color Cammo Mutt, aquired August 09
1976 or 7? M151A2 "Miss Sandy" Driver, aquired May 2010
Former owner M151A2 "Miss Saigon" Vietnam Rescue Sold Sept 09

Re: Flatties at the Field
To answer the question of whether there is camping on site: There is not, but one of the guys attending lives between New Paltz NY and Gardiner (about 35 minutes from the Aerodrome). He owns a large piece of land and has offered that people can camp there if they want. Please send me your contact info if you wish to pursue that route.
So far 18 confirmed jeeps attending. 'Mostly CJ2A's and WW2 jeeps. One CJ3B, two M151's and an M38A1. So definitely the more jeeps the merrier!
The show goes from 10-4. Airshow at the Aerodrome is at 2. Afterwards people can opt for a convoy on the back roads of Rhinebeck and Red Hook. Some very scenic views of the beautiful Hudson.

Re: Flatties at the Field
Let me clarify that with there is an optional participation in a convoy after the show

Re: Flatties at the Field
I would like to come but a 3 1/2 hour drive and the only camping is a half hour away. And it looks like a one day affair, so not worth bringing the camper but too far for a day trip. Sorry.
