Head is brand new with new valves etc
Upon actually putting my hand against the carb it is sucking in air so I overreacted when a puff of air hit me
But I do need a distributor wire plug the jumper cables don't fit and you certainly can't just clamp the outside of the distributor!

Your distributor has the threaded fitting on it doesn't it? Inside of that fitting is a pin and you should be able to use a small jumper wire with an alligator clip and hook it to the pin and to the hot terminal of the battery. Of coarse now I am second guessing myself and I cannot remember if the pin is in the distributor or the supply wire. If it is a hole instead of a pin in there just find a suitable probe probably from a meter and it should slide in there and clip your jumper to that.

When you say jumper cables do you mean battery jumper cables? If you do then there are probably no threads left to screw the connect on to. On ANY threaded connector the power is on the wire INSIDE the connector, not on the connector itself. Remember that for future use. The connector is only there to attach the wires.

Smell it, If it smells like gas it is contaminated. If it will light with a match it is REALLY contaminated, DO NOT RUN!!!

My front seal is leaking somehow.....literally brand new fresh seal installed with Rtv
I'll check it out again by pulling the dipstick and smelling

Also pulled my gas tank from the shelf it's not pretty full of rust but not rusted through at all
Biggest fear is the ring with the threaded holes for the pick up tube plate seems to have separated a little bit
What's the cost of a good one these days? Or anyone have any tricks for fixing it up.

If the seal did not go in perfectly straight or if the pulley caught it on the install either of those will cause a leak. Did you lube the seal up good before installing the the front pulley? Did the pulley have a groove worn in it?Husker wrote:I believe it does or it's from something Else

That is all that s needed. It the pulley had a wear sleeve on it then it might have caught the lip of the seal and rolled it.
