Mystery Piece
Fellow member found this in a m151a2. Anyone have an idea what it's for?

Re: Mystery Piece
Looks to be steel? Is it solid or hollow? Couple more pics would help but it is certainly not M-151 related.

OMG, it's the final piece of the puzzle. It's the missing rivet from the Titanic!!
Now that THAT mystery has been resolved, we now return you to your regular program.

Re: Mystery Piece
I got an email guess - they think it's a plug for a pedestal mount to keep trash/rain out.

Re: Mystery Piece
Was the mystery piece ever identified?
Re: Mystery Piece
Gave it back to the owner to see if it fits the socket . will know Friday.
Re: Mystery Piece
Plug fits like a glove in the socket for the cradle he said.
Re: Mystery Piece
Very nice. How do we find another one for me? Any markings on it?

Re: Mystery Piece
If anyone is interested, and if there would be some demand, I could make those this winter. I would make them out of Delrin, it is very easy to macnine, and can be painted. I would need the measurements , as I have a lathe and would be easy to make. I also have a M4 mount in my jeep so I would be sure they would fit nice.

Re: Mystery Piece
Will be getting the measurements soon,Working on his 151 and comes by almost everyday ,will have him bring it back up. May be Monday.
Re: Mystery Piece
They would fit even nicer if they had a little lip that went over the edges of the top flange of the socket, so as to direct any water to fall down past the socket, rather than permit it to migrate inwards at the joint. Right now, I keep a plastic cup (a readymade cake icing container) over mine. It works, but it looks kinda goofy.

Re: Mystery Piece
I went to my farm today where my M151 is stored and looked at that M4 mount and I have the long spindle M142 cradle. Does anyone know if that piece was ever a military issue or was it maybe made by someone. Reason for asking that, it would be easy to make as in picture, or could make it with a lip that would fit over the flange and you would not see the seam and the water would not be able to seep in. I have done some checking and my original thought to make it out of acetal or Delrin would be very, very expensive, actually made out of aluminum would be cheaper, and I have a lathe and have made many pieces out of aluminum. I have done some checking and the cost would be at least 40.00 plus the shipping, and that would just cover my expenses. I doubt that there would be very much of a demand for these, but I would be willing to make some. I may make one for me, but it will be at least this fall before I bring my M151 to my shop in town, I would want to put it on mine first to make sure it fits right.
