5.000 miles
Fourteen years after I got the jeep, I got it past the first 5.000 miles today. That is an average of 360 miles a year, not really a glory. But in my defense, their had been years with almost no usage and two long trips with more than 1000 miles each..

Re: 5.000 miles
I am lucky if I put 200 miles a year on mine. I always try to catch those milestones on my speedometers and for one reason or another I always end up missing it, Either I forget or traffic will not allow me to stop.

Re: 5.000 miles
and not to forget that the oil pressure gauges is totally wrong, it is the 120psi type...
As a matter of fact, some, if not most of the Barstow 151 were sitting outside. The gauges were just covered with duct tape, which at some point in time did rot away. On my dash you can still see some traces of the tape. The also covered the exhaust tip and the intake. That was pretty much about it.

Re: 5.000 miles
Duct tape left on the gauges for years in the desert sun, yea, that is good for the gauge.

Re: 5.000 miles
How did you do that? I should replace my speedo with one of those that show both km and miles but I can’t bring myself to junk a working speedo and pay over USD100 (including post) for the privilege.m3a1 wrote:I like the cool speedo correction overlays.

I just transfer lettering, the ones on a carrier paper you rub on the target using a pen. And then protected the lettering with clear tape. Actually it was just intended when I had to register the jeep 14 years ago but they are holding up very well since then.

Brilliant. Ok, Horst, you just made the list of people I need to go round up after the zombie apocalypse.

Re: 5.000 miles
Horst, that is some pretty beautiful country side to be able to jeep-n around in! I was looking at Miss Cammy the other day at the date on the oil filter after last change, 2012 then look at the miles when I made the change until now and it was something like 390, guess I need to drive her more! Figured oil is still good

Re: 5.000 miles
Start and stop without really warming up to hot is the worst thing for oil so take a look at it. If it is dirty I would change it. Not getting it hot forms acids so even super low mileage can do damage.
