Rear Window

Unread post by Bucolic » May 3rd, 2018, 1:07 am

How can I get the wrinkles out of my rear window? I have a fairly new vinyl top that has a wrinkled window. I bought the top new and figured (wrongly) that the wrinkles would eventually go away since my jeep gets lots of sun. The top has been on for over two years and the rear straps are snug.

How "new" was the new top when you bought it? If it was a NOS top it could have been 30 years old and those wrinkles were set in there for that long, They are not coming out. The plasticizers in the window material dry out over the years and they become less and less flexible. That is why you see them crack after many years.

Mine is the same way. I toyed with the idea of trying to use a heat gun to allow those ripples to relax but I'm in Texas and even with some very hot days, mine remains wrinkled. So, I decided having at it with a heat gun might just not be such a good idea.

Cheers,
TJ

I really have no idea how long it sat on some shelf somewhere but with what you're saying in mind, I guess I'm stuck with my wrinkles.
Thanks Rick.
