See guys, that's what i've been talking about all along with modding my MUTT!

Different is good, people like us aren't sheep.

rickf wrote:I am not about to drill that many holes in my mut for a top I would have on for three months.
I do agree with Rick about that's way to many holes to drill into a perfectly good Jeep.

I attached a lip to my hard top in certain spots that way the top rested on the body of the mutt without having to drill holes into it. I also added a foam strip anywhere the lip touched the body so i didn't scratch it up. I secured the top to the ROPS to keep it from moving around; if you don't have the ROPS it won't work.

I would rather modify the hard top than the body of the MUTT. My hard top is in storage but if you want to see what i'm talking about maybe I can go snap a couple of pics.

But like i said in an earlier post, I don't use the hard top because it raises the center of gravity and I notice a difference in the way it handles off road.

...my two cents worth, maybe 1 1/2 cents...

I do get what all of you are saying. A perfectly good MUTT should not be drilled into with so many holes for a hard top that wont be on it for more than a few months at a time, and will only cause more noise that what the MUTT normally puts out without a hard top. I do get the whole thing about raising it's center of gravity as well, making it more prone to cause a roll over.

But as it's been said, I'm not a sheep, and I like what I like. When the jeep is mine and I can do what I want, I'll do with it what needs to be done to make it look the way I really want it to look.

Right now, it is a daily driver. The hubby drives it to work every single day, and he is really bummed when he can't drive it. (usually when he has to take my truck to haul a bunch of crap home from work that wont fit in the Jeep with Trailer attached) It will probably be a couple of years before I get the A2 all squared away to become his daily driver. (It has a lot of body work that needs worked on/replaced, and then there is the JOY of trying to title a Military Vehicle with no previous VIN # in the state of OHIO)

Once the Jeep is mine, it will no longer be a daily driver. It will sit in storage for the majority of the year. Being taken out to go to Military Vehicle shows, and on nice days maybe to putz around town with the top off, lookin' all kewl in my jeep. ;)

The A1 that is being restored from the bottom up, is uncut and will not be drilled into to put a hard top on it. The A2 is also uncut and will not be drilled into to put a hard top on it (plus it is hubby's and he wouldn't allow it). :)

This A1 IS cut, though nicely rewelded and very sound, it's not going to be a problem in my eyes, to do a little bit of drilling into her to put a hard top on her. If I had something like what cstaup just bought as a parts jeep, I would rethink this and put the Hard Top on that. But right now, I don't have a 'tosser' to put my idea into reality on. Actually, I don't even have THIS one to do it with yet. LOL

Maybe by the time it is all mine, I'll have gotten another Jeep to play with and will modify that one instead. It's going to be awhile even

I have this idea in my head of what I want, and the Hard Top is part of that idea, so it WILL be done. (eventually, on SOMETHING!) ;)

That is my $3 dollars worth. ;)

I don't think I'd ever mistake you for a sheep TX...lol By all means it is up to you how you want your jeep to be, no argument from me. At least from my point of view, I wanted to share what I knew about hardtops, with the thought of providing you with as much info as possible to assist you in making YOUR decision, not to talk you out of it. If you like the hardtop, by all means go for it. Our little community here has no reluctance to issue their opinions, wanted or not, but at the end of the day no one would disagree that only your opinion counts when it comes to your jeeps... I guess we're like any typical dysfunctional family hehehe....

:( I'm sure nobody meant mean to upset you TX, I know i didn't. :(

You're absolutly right. It IS your jeep and you can do with it what ever you want. I absolutly understand the desire to make it unique.

But everyone here is just looking after one of their own, and giving you their "opinion". After hearing all the different points of view if you still want to do it, then do it, and have fun with it. :)

Wolves...not sheep...AARROOOOO!!! (<---Thats supposed to be a howl!) Yes i know i'm a geek! :)

LOL TopTiger. I'm pretty sure I've never been married before now. He's my first husband, so I'm sure you are safe from me. (for the moment) LOL

MUTTVet, I'm not upset at all, just letting you guys know my reasoning behind the choice of mine.

Moose,, I understand that you are all trying to give me an understanding as to what will be involved, or what "issues" will come about if I choose to do this. And I've read everything, and it's all valid for the reasons that have been stated by you and others. However, because I feel these 'issues' are not too bad to 'deal' with, I'm gonna go ahead with my choice. :)

Trust me guys, I was never upset with your comments/replies, I was just commenting/replying right along with you all. ;)

I probably should to make it as 'authentic' as possible. However, I think the heater it already has will do if I'm actually needing heat in the cab to keep me warm on cold mornings/drives. ;)
