71 Ford Pics I Promised
Had to get them out of the Garage for a good cleaning of said Garage, after Radiator Flush, New Water Pump, hoses, thermostat and clamps, New brakes including Master and wheel cylinders, Shoes, springs, turned drums and new wheel seals. Next we pull the head to diagnose the cause of low compression in Cylinder #3. You guys have been incredible with expert advice and tips. So far everything has gone very smooth.

That is one sweet jeep, don't find them in that shape very often, I know you're proud of it, if I had one like that, I would show it to everyone.

Thanks Hambone! When I get it running right, she gets a new coat of paint and stenciling. The I will be selling one, probably the AMG. I have 4, M768 Marine Corps trailers and a line on the original Generator Set that was on one of them. Need to make room inside for some of that! I show them as much as I can. On nice days I will put them in the front yard as seen in these pics, in my own personal "Static Display"! Now to remove the head - gasket blown or burnt valve? Anyone on here want to place any bets?

Re: 71 Ford Pics I Promised
Not sure why but the valve was somewhat stuck. The pushrod had come out from under the rocker arm. When I did the compression check a couple of days ago, the intake valve was not opening at all. I was getting about 60 PSI in Cylinder 3. 110ish in the other 3 cylinders. When I tried to rotate the rocker arm by hand and depress the valve, it was very hard at first but with a little bit of penetrating oil and some elbow grease I was able to free the valve, reset the pushrod and it fired right up and ran smoothly.

Re: 71 Ford Pics I Promised
Pardon me, (and I mean absolutely no offense), but according to the top photo, it says a 71 FOR (Ford I am guessing) and a 74 AMG. Based on the photo, both are the same. I don't remember which is which, but the easiest way to tell from the front was the curve on the front of the front fender. It was discussed here on G838 a long time ago.
The problem is my A2 has one of each, (which I didn't notice until about 8 years after I got it!!!) but is registered as a Ford, as it does have a BUDD tag on the firewall.

Re: 71 Ford Pics I Promised
In mid 71 Ford went to the later style fenders that you are familiar with so both yours and his are correct. They made replacement fenders for the A2 so you may have an early Ford model that had a fender replaced.
Or you have a really, REALLY rare one that got the LAST Ford old style fender and the FIRST Ford late style fender on the production line. MAN, If you could ever prove that one!!!!!
