MUTT at Andrews AFB
Have been to Andrews AFB in Maryland for an Air Show (having the Blue Angels there as well) on Saturday. There was a lot of stuff which can fly in any direction. And an A1 on the ground.

That is a perfect example of why you secure your belongings when showing your vehicle. Note the kids all over and in it. That is a private owners vehicle, has a regular license tag on it. No marine hubs and the gas can is backwards but a real nice looking vehicle. Is that a vent on the side of the battery compartment?

Re: MUTT at Andrews AFB
Nice looking rig. I have never seen rear lifting rings mounted like that, it that a official add on for an A1 or maybe I just never looked close???

That was the standard marine lifting kit for the A1.

Re: MUTT at Andrews AFB
I think he's referring to the rear rings mounted horizontally rather than vertically like the front ones.

Re: MUTT at Andrews AFB
Rick is correct, that was a add-on kit developed for the marines to re-enforce the fender and provide a stronger tie down point.

Ha a nice visit from Richard today and we were discussing that particular mutt. Notice the sign laying on the passengers seat? Want to guess what it says?rickf wrote:That is a perfect example of why you secure your belongings when showing your vehicle. Note the kids all over and in it. DO NOT CLIMB ON OR IN VEHICLE!
THAT is why my vehicle would NEVER be on display at an air show or any large venue where I am not going to be sitting withing sight of it.
All it takes is one inconsiderate parent or kid and every singe kid at the show will be in it after that. And they, nor their parents, will show any respect for the fact that someone put a lot of time and labor into restoring it.

Re: MUTT at Andrews AFB
This kids at shows thing always seems to draw a battle line with people. I had to tell a guy to eff himself at Aberdeen last year because of this exact topic. If you dont want people in your rig, I completely understand. Put the signs up, put ropes around it, sit next to it with a shotgun, etc. However, I dont like being told I can't. Some a$$wad told me I cant let kids in my truck because it makes them think it's ok to go in all the trucks. I was nice at first but then when he told me he didnt want to catch me doing it again things got nasty. MY personal opinion is that what makes these trucks cool is that they are rugged, hard to destroy, no-bondo, no corvette crowd trucks. They were meant to have the crap kicked out of them by the military and some 5 year old certainly isnt going to do worse. I like when people ask to sit in the jeep for pictures. Those kids are the ones that grow up and restore military trucks cause of the fond childhood memores which in turn keeps the hobby alive.
To be clear, I am NOT saying its ok to disregard signs and requests for hands off. At shows I spend more time telling my little ones to keep thier hands in thier pockets than I do looking at the trucks. As I said, if there is a hands off sign it should be respected. And I know some people spend so much money on thier rigs that even a scratch is earth shattering. BUT, if a 5 year old sitting in the seat is going to make you lose your mind, your best bet is to leave it at home. Kids are an upredictable lot. Anyone who has few will have sotries about how they get away from you some times! I am sure I will hear the bla bla bla about keeping control of you kids but again, I will say if you had a few you would know what Im talking about

Re: MUTT at Andrews AFB
The problem is that it is not just the kids. And there are a LOT of sticky fingers in today's society. Where 90% of the people seeing something being stolen 30 years ago would have confronted the thief, today, just the opposite. The 90% will look away. They have to. In today's society and with today's laws, if you interfere,or detain the person then you will be charged with some BS charge and the perpetrator will walk away.

I agree with njjeeper. its your truck, therefore your rules. looking at those pics, i never would have left all that gear in the jeep and walked away, cause for sure a lot of it would have walked away too while i was gone. i dont mind when people ask to sit in it or get a pic with it etc. but i do mind wild ass unsupervised kids running amok. i would be there with my jeep though, to supervise it myself, cause as njjeeper says kids can get away from parents pretty easily.
