Fuel Tank/Sender Question
My fuel sender has always been erratic/inaccurate as well noted on this site. Usually always check my fuel level visually. Finally got around to installing a good ground connection as recommended in the WIKI. Tested and reinstalled the sender and was surprised that the gauge now read empty although I just put in five gallons of fresh gas into the empty tank. Pulled the sender out tried to readjust the float arm, but at maximum extension, there is still approximately 2.5” between the bottom of the float and the tank bottom. Doing the math for cubic inches/gallon that works out to be approximately 5 gallons of gas in the bottom of the tank. Is this typical? Double checked my fuel tank dimensions and total capacity comes out to around 16 gallons which is correct for the emission style tank. By the way at least the fuel gauge needle stopped bounding around. The numbers on the sending unit cover are MS-500040-2 57733 8376496 so I don’t think this is a repro, but I didn’t think there would be a 4-5 gallon reserve built into a 16 gallon tank.

Re: Fuel Tank/Sender Question
wwitten: I installed a new sending unit, filled the tank, and it never got to 1/2 on the fuel gauge.....that was before it stopped working altogether after about a month.

Ralph,
Thanks for the welcome, used to be active on the G503 site before this site started. Joined this site, but been spending the past few years working on my sons CJ5 & M38 projects. Finally getting back to working on the M151.
