engine smoke

Unread post by svramselaar » September 16th, 2009, 5:55 am

hello

i have now done 66.000 mile`s with my mutt :D
i do not how much the military drove with this engine
if i go from the throttle the exhaust is smoking oil
it starts good and drive`s still 65 miles hour no problem
i was thinking to replace the inlet valve seals
Wat is the maximum mile`s a mutt engine runs before it is worn out in the cylinders :?:
i do know tad the military standard replacement for a mutt was 35.000 mile or 14 year

George, If I understand you correctly what you are saying is when you are letting off of the gas and slowing down from speed the engine is smoking? That would be while there is no throttle but higher RPM. That is a sign of worn oil rings. The high vacuum in the cylinder in pulling oil past the oil rings during deceleration. Valve seals will give you a puff of smoke at start up and also after you have been idling for a while. That is what I have with mine, just been too lazy to put the seals on.

George's mutt is no trailer queen that is for sure! I just can't figure out how he fits in it for those long rides. George is a BIG boy!

hi fickf

to sit in the mutt is no problem (it is better as in my Mercedes-Benz )
i only replaced the front tube`s of the seats to the rear the bent is now narrow to the tank
and i use the A1 adjustable seats see below
Image

my engine is only smoking if there is a high vacuum in the inlet
after long idling and if i brake on the engine
there are two possible items the easy thing new valve seals and the big thing re bore the cylinders and put oversize pistons in
i prefer the seals tad i can do with the engine in the mutt
i block the engine with piston 1 and 4 on top (compression ) put air on the spark plug hole cill 1 and take the inlet valve spring off
the air hold the valve up otherwise it is falling on the piston if the air is not holding
i only want to know how many mile`s a mutt engine can run with normal use

baios
you must drive and drive with your mutt
it is a reliable car :D

I think you are finding out how many miles it will last! I have used air to hold the valve but I have also used a piece of cotton cloths line pushed into the spark plug hole and then just bar the engine around until the piston is pushing the line against the valves. That way I am not looking all over for the air adapters I always manage to lose. :? Also don't have to worry about the engine spinning over unexpectedly and losing body parts in the fan and belts!
