Dummy radio

Unread post by Homer » January 26th, 2008, 11:50 pm

Some where on this form I read about someone who used a radio shell and apparently had a regular radio inside. I've tried to find the message, but because I'm on dial up I will be old before I can find it,

My question to this person is how did you do it, are there any photos of the finished product? This has always seemed like an interesting way to have the period tunes while driving.

Most military radios made so that the guts bolt to the face plate and the face plate bolts to the case. So if you have a junk radio with a good face plate and case all you would need is to hook a radio up to the on off switch to give you power to it and the speaker to the speaker so that you have sound. I know there is more detail than that, but that's a nutshell start for you.
There is one nut on a M151 that is very difficult to remove.....

A common field mod was to screw an empty ammo can next to the radio to hold accessories like headsets, handsets, spare parts etc. A number of people have installed radios or cd players in the can, attached it to the fender and ran wires to the radio speaker so it seemed to come from the radio itself and was totally hidden. Thats probably the easiest way to do it.
