In episode 6 of the jeep turning into Christine, I was out for a drive today, heard a ping and saw something bouncing down the road, and noticed a change in the ride. Pulled over and looked underneath and saw the driver side rear shock hanging

Luckily just down the road from home.
Doing some digging on the site, it looks like my rear shocks are not stock. They're Monroe 32207 (I think not correct for A2). As such, there are a few parts on mine that are not shown on the TM 9-2320-218-34P diagram. There are some spacers and a washer on the bolt. What do the experts thing my way forward is on this? I'm guessing the advice will be to source A2 shocks rather than mess with the Monroe's.
This is the right side also disassembled.

M151A2 front shocks are fairly easy to find from multiple sources. However, I have never been able to find NOS rear shocks in the U.S. and they are no longer manufactured. I have been able to find NOS rear shocks for sale in Germany and Greece in the past, but expensive. I may have seen them for sale at a parts house in Thailand as well, but not certain. I had one rear shock that started leaking slightly, but stopped leaking so I never replaced them and they seem to be working fine. If you are missing the correct shocks you likely will have to go the expensive route for NOS ones or try some old used ones.

Guy from CMD found some that are very close to the stock size and function. He might see this or you can PM him.

OK, thanks for the info guys. Will try those other Monroe shocks. Follow up question. I don't see a reference for these flange bushings pictured on the bolt. Seems like they are needed due to the diameter of the bracket on the jeep. Of course the local hardware store does not have matching sizes so looking for a source/part #s if these are supposed be on a M151A2.

Does that shock have that much side play between the bushings inside the mount? That setup you are showing looks like it is designed to work on a split bushing. I have not seen split bushings on much of anything besides aftermarket poly bushings. Plus, those spacers are two different sizes, looks like one would go inside the bushing but not the other. Just not making sense to me.

Yes, there was some side play that was attempted to be minimized by adding the bushings and washer . It's making sense to me now that these extras are work arounds by the previous owner. I can assume that the correct shock won't have any play and therefore don't need these extras.

In the -34P manual go to figure #99 and you will see the rear A2 shock. No spacers.

Yep. Posted at the top and it's what made me start questioning that the setup wasn't right. That and the shock coming loose....
Will follow-up with how the new ones fit. Thanks again guys for adding clarity.

Monroe 66627 seems to be a good fit. Lined up perfectly in the 'neutral' extend/compress position. The shocks on there previously were definitely too long and I'm pretty sure it is a better ride now too. While it's not great to have things go wrong with the vehicle, each time I learn something new.
