Differential Lube?

You said it, Rick. Can't blame someone for being anxious to hastily sort their rig out -BUT- haste makes waste and it also makes it VERY difficult for us to help. Some times to the point of throwing in the towel on the matter.

Re: Differential Lube?
Rick, I get what you are saying, and I have really appreciated the advice that everyone has given. My time was limited to work on getting it going, but I did do a great deal of reading on the forum. I didn't fire the parts cannon at all, because I had no parts to work with. Many senior members have noted the importance of having spare units on hand in case something goes south when you are far from home. Since all I had to work with was under the hood, acquiring the extra parts helped build up the "Go Box" that will be with me whenever I'm on the road. Another NOS coil will be my last addition to have the box stocked with my original wire set (good), new plugs, swiss control module, and a freshly rebuilt carb that went a few rounds in the ultrasonic as prep work. I've thought about getting another distributor and having everything assembled as a unit, but I'm not there yet. I now agree with your earlier comments about the head gasket not being blown. But the wetting on the #4 cylinder wasn't something I was going to let go. For a couple hundred bucks I had a chance to verify the head bolts were fully threaded, the heavy milling marks on the head were cleaned up, and the head wasn't warped. The Permatex coating on the gasket may not have been necessary, but it made me feel better when it was going together. She runs like a champ now and over time I'll clean up some of the nuisance items like the differential leaks. This rig will be with me a long time, so taking a few detours when fighting a problem will only help in the long run.
