Anyone know of a paint code that's a close match for the face plate on an RT-524A?
( It's definitely not 33070. )
Thanks.
Mark

I don't have anything in a TM but, I think Fed STD 595C 34096 would be a close match.

Thanks Dan.
I haven't been able to find 34096 from any of the usual vendors, so I looked into ordering it from a specialty paint company. Prices vary, but one company charges (round numbers) $20 for an 11 oz. spray can, plus $30 for a "Batch Production Fee," and $24 more for shipping. I don't need it that bad.
I researched the FED STD 595C color specification for hex codes and RGB numbers. Working from that, I eventually found that Krylon Camouflage "Olive" spray paint is a very close match to 34096:
I bought a can of Krylon Olive and sprayed a test panel. Unfortunately, it's still a few shades too light to match the face plate on my radio. I'm guessing there's some color variation between radios, but RGB 55, 55, 35 seems closer to my unit. I'll keep researching to see if I can come up with a closer match.
Thanks again.

Yes, a little more to the brown side, see if you can find some 24087, it's a semi-gloss more to the brown, the same shades "the last 3 numbers" will look different in a gloss "1", "2" semi-gloss, and "3" flat, as the first number. The 2nd number is the color of which "4" is green. I have a NOS faceplate that is black. https://fed-std-595.com/FED-STD-595C-Pr ... C-FAN-DECK

Re: RT-524A Paint Code?
My RT-524A radio is definitely 24087, top front and sides. I purchase 24087 from Army Jeep Parts - $11.75 per spray can, plug shipping. It is made by Gillespie and is very good paint.

Thanks for that information. I'm looking into 24087 and just ran across a post from David Doyle regarding Army paint history . . .

That's way too much information for my purposes, but it's an interesting topic. Didn't have any idea that there are so many variables. I'll order a can of Gillespie 24087 and spray a test panel to see if it's a good match for my unit. I've used their paint in the past and have had good results.

Colors in the Federal Standard (595C) set have no official names and are identified by five digits. The numbers designate the sheen, color classification, and color intensity.
The first digit will be 1,2 or 3 and indicates the level of sheen:
1 = gloss
2 = semi gloss
3 = matt
The second digit indicates the color group;
0 = Brown
1 = Red
2 = Orange
3 = Yellow
4 = Green
5 = Blue
6 = Grey
7 = Other (white, black, violet, metallic)
8 = Fluorescent
The third to fifth digits indicate the intensity. Lower numbers indicate a darker color and higher numbers indicate a lighter color.
