Looking for TTPs on reassembling my brakes

Unread post by 09FordRanger » June 29th, 2024, 9:35 am

Guys, I am looking for any TTPs (Tactics, Techniques & Procedures) that you guys use when rebuilding your brakes. Unfortunately for me, my age is catching up with me. I'm getting too feeble to 'muscle' my brake springs into place (especially the brake adjuster spring). I got the technical part figured out (the May 82 -20 is very clear) so I know what I'm supposed to do I just ain't got the strength to 'force' a lot of things anymore.
So when -20 says 'attach adjuster spring' one is expected to pull that spring till it extends far enough to connect to both shoes while simultaneously holding the shoes in place. To say I'm struggling would be an understatement. I thought about taking the wheel spindles back apart to give myself more room to pull on those springs but rather not if I can avoid it (I just put them back together with new bearings and seals and such).
Anyway, what I'm seeking is any little TTPs used out there that guys have found handy and that makes the spring wrestling go easier. I'm happy with any thoughts (even the "must suck to be you" types - they always make me smile). Love this site.

Thanks. Something like that is exactly what I was hoping for. I had no idea such a thing existed. I'll be on my way to Harbor Freight tomorrow. Thanks again.
