Prints or CAD For Underbody Components??

Unread post by Elvis Presley » May 18th, 2021, 3:03 pm

Just curious if anyone happens to have technical drawings or prints for any M151A1 structural elements?
This might be a question for The Mutt Guru, but just putting it out there for everyone!!
Specifically attachment brackets and supports where the rear suspension components connect the body.
I've been seeing quite a bit more interest and use of digital printing in product development and was going to see if I could sneak in and use the equipment at night when no one is around.....

You just never know....

Thanks!!!

Our QC department has a macine that will create a model file from scanning an actual part. What are you trying to do? 3D print?

Tiny bit of luck. First request was to Rock Island Historian...
Sir,
Good afternoon! Thank you for your research request. You are correct in that you can request technical drawings from the RIA Archives however unfortunately we are unaware of any specific drawings related to the M151 specifically. When we did work on the vehicle it was adding different weapon components and, to my knowledge not to the vehicle itself.
Is there a specific drawing that you are looking for regarding the M151 or just any that you can find? As far as I am aware Ford produced the vehicle so you may try thehenryford.org which is an archive of that includes technical drawings of Ford products. Please let me know if we can assist your research further.

Ken... I can PM his contact information in case you are interested.

I have reached out to the Research Center after failing to find anything through the digital collection for Ford.org and currently waiting on a response. Fingers crossed.

Research Center Reply - No drawings but Ken may still be interested...
Hi,

Thank you for your inquiry. The Henry Ford has reopened. However, the Benson Ford Research Center (our archives & library) remains closed for now, and we are still working remotely most of the time. We can still help - it just may take longer than normal under the circumstances.

The Henry Ford is actually not part of the Ford Motor Company - we are an independent, nonprofit museum founded by Mr. Ford in 1929. The Ford Motor Company has donated extensive archival and photographic collections to us over the years...however, the bulk of the later materials were retained by the company in their corporate archives (archives@ford.com).

We DO have a collection of Ford Parts Drawings from 1903-1957...but it does not seem to include any drawings of the M-151. I believe the M-151 went into production later than that, so any drawings that still exist were probably retained by the company. Our collection does include a lot of drawings for earlier vehicles like the GP, GPA, and GPW. General information about our Ford Parts Drawings collection can be found here:
https://www.thehenryford.org/collection ... s-drawings

A few of our archival collections do include materials relating to the M-151. Most of the collections have not been digitized yet, but finding aids (box & folder lists) can be found here:
https://findingaids.thehenryford.org/xt ... 22M-151%22

If you are interested in any of those materials, please let us know, and we can follow up about research options and costs.

Thanks again,

Well that's a bummer. I contacted the Benson Ford Research Center as well, but have not heard back. I'm guessing my response will look just like yours Surveyor! I would like to see what they have!

I used to have a '42 Lincoln Zephyr and have hit the library once or twice for information. It's a very cool place!! They brought out the original build cards in a metal drawer for the month my vehicle was build - October 31st 1941. It was an experience I will never forget.

I'll schedule a trip over there and don the white gloves to rifle through the goodies!!

Thanks everyone!
(Maybe we could ask someone to "borrow" a copy of that CD.....)

I'd love a trip to see the Guru!! Maybe one of these days!

Now that the village is open again, I'm going to head over to the research center to take a look at the stuff they do have. May not be anything, but would still be cool!

A response to an earlier inquiry about digital printing: I need to replicate a few of the cross members that are not available through any means (other than buying the rear half of a M151 and cutting them out: strangely enough, that is a possibility!) Unfortunately plastic isn't going to fit the bill.
Thanks for asking - any and all ideas welcome!

To be specific, I need the cross member that the rear suspension bolts to. Time has not been all that good to my M151A1...
But we will rebuild him!

Thanks for all the feedback!

Guess I missed that. So you are talking about the cross member thar is just behind the front seats? If so, I can make you one.
