Re: M4 Riser Base
Doesn't look like an original part to me. Is it home-made? Just wondering......

Re: M4 Riser Base
If that's a reproduction part and they are selling on e-bay for that price then I guess CMD should start making them! The ad states it's original but looks like a reproduction.

Re: M4 Riser Base
Appears to be a repro, the original has a bulge in the drivers side vertical plate.

Re: M4 Riser Base
The riser base is a two-piece arrangement, separated by a generous gap in the middle of the top (horizontal) section. The gap is necessary to achieve proper alignment to the body and yes, there is a bulge. There is a better reproduction out there. I had a set of them. Don't recall if I sold them or not.

Re: M4 Riser Base
It was pulled from an A1 that had been sitting for a very long time, it is two pieces. If it is home made some one had a very large bending press and shear as all the bends and cuts are factory perfect, I removed the word original although I was referring to the paint. I have no idea what it's actually worth but will see if it sells or not, welcome all comments.

Re: M4 Riser Base
First, my apologies. I guess I should really look a lot harder before I make comments as I now see it is, indeed, in two pieces.
The repro set I had was just as heavy, sheared correctly, all the holes in the right places, correct bends and angles and with the bulge... and by chance, I was contacted by the fellow who actually made them. Now, I don't remember if I sold them or not. Bottom line is, there are folks out there with real skills who can make just about anything.
It may be that you have one of his early attempts or it may be that yours is just something that is entirely original and has, until now, been undiscovered. Most of us have learned to never say never. These mounts can be a very tricky business because nowadays they are rarely found as complete kits (as they were originally delivered). So guys really have to scramble to put a set together.
I think the real bottom line is, anyone who would want to 'mount up' would appreciate having them.
Cheers,
TJ

Re: M4 Riser Base
That could have been made by anyone with an Ironworker machine in their garage or even just a set of dies for bending metal in a 20 ton press. It is nothing more than 2 identical pieces. Now, how many people are really going to notice the bulge is missing other than someone who has whatever needed that space? That may very well have been made in a motor pool somewhere to replace one that got bent in a rollover, who knows. As long as it does the job. Paint it like they did in the service with thick paint and worn out brush and nobody will know the difference.

Re: M4 Riser Base
Thank you for the comments, the two pieces are so identical that if it was shop made the individual was very skilled and as mentioned had the correct equipment.

Thought I'd show the following as a means of comparison. These are repros as well. I have never seen another set like them, though I'm rather sure these aren't one-offs.
I would like to remind everyone that we have a member here who is/was willing to sell his set for a reasonable price.
Cheers,

ATTN: RICK, et al...
JFYI, the photos in the previous post are posted using the new method.
While creating that post, I realized one of the three photos (while a different photo altogether) was duplicative...so I deleted it by cutting it from the post using my editor which usually does the trick. So, I should have had two photos. Instead, there are still three.
So I put the same photos in this post and then deleted them by using the Delete File button in the attachments section.
As you can see, they are gone from this post. The point is, if you are going to delete a photo loaded by the new method, you MUST use the Delete File button to accomplish it.
