Ford stopped production of the A1 model near the end of 1969 and changed over to production of the A2 model, producing the now type-approved M151A2 with first deliveries to the military in March 1970.

In late 1971, the M151A2 contract renewal came up for bid but Ford lost the new contract to AM General, who produced the M151A2 into the early 1980's.

I think they were made later than that for export. Late 80's I believe. I have seen dataplates with 85 on them. And that was US vehicles. They were all crushed.

I think my A2 was made in 1980? Have to do some email research which will be difficult to do because of the aol.com fiasco

Yes, I had ken look it up, it did come directly from USMC(to the guy I bought it from, which is what he said) I really regret repainting it, should have left the old faded paint on it.It really would have been nice if some Marine stashed forgotten 50 lbs of gold in the main channels.LOL. Oh am I dreaming now!!

Mark,
Have one from the 79 contract that had once again its original dataplate on it.
Had 3500 miles on the odoneter.
On further examination the dates on a lot of the electrical parts indicated 1981 dates.
It would be my estimation that it is orobably that age.
Kind of interesting but to others orobably nit significant .
Its primo condition is the only important detail!

Fil, You remember that pile of crushed ones our mutual friend had. The same ones that mine came from. They were all mid eighties.

I remember them but dont recall the dates.
That was 2007 if I remember correctly.
That’s a long time ago for an old man!

Fil, if yours was not crushed, I would say you have a Rare (10 %) Mutt. Not too many folks can say they have a 80's Mutt. (or 79).
Cheers

There are lots of them out there.
Just have to be patient or lucky to find them.
Wasnt looking for either one when they fell in to my lap.
First one was stashed in a garage.
Made the guy an offer he couldnt refuse!
The other was a body only on the side of the road in Ontario, Canada.
A week later it followed me home to Cape Cod.
18 months later I had a built A2.
Good stories but a heck of a lot of fun!

I too have a 1979 contract A2. I bought it in 2013 from a museum with 3100 documented miles on it. It came from the USMC with 300 miles and the museum put on the rest. All original with the NSN number on the front bumper. If I remember correctly from when I got it, the serial number is 55 away from Fil's.

I'm keeping that one and trying to sell my other one. I can only drive one.
