Re: Getting ready to fight coronavirus
Many banks around here don't have "no concealed weapons" signs.
There is one banking chain that specifically has a sign that says the bank not only recognizes but supports the second amendment.
https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/cri ... c1539.html
RaymondPresident of Troy, Mo., bank pulls gun, nabs masked robber
TROY, MO. • Maybe the bank robber couldn’t see very well through the holes in his mask — the face of Chucky from the “Child’s Play” horror movies — as he walked into Peoples Bank & Trust Tuesday afternoon.
After all, it says right on the door that concealed weapons are allowed in the bank. They’re practically encouraged by the sign: “Management recognizes the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution as an unalienable right of all citizens.”
So when the robber walked out of the bank a short time later with a red bank bag full of cash, maybe he shouldn’t have been surprised that bank president David W. Thompson followed him out to the parking lot. Thompson watched the masked robber get in a Ford pickup parked in a handicapped spot up front, then pulled his Colt .380 handgun and pointed it at the man.
“Sir, get out of the truck,” Thompson, 58, recalled demanding. “You’re not going anywhere.”
And when the man put his hand in his jacket pocket, as if he had a weapon, Thompson scolded him again.
“You don’t want to go there,” Thompson said. “This will end badly.”

Things here in Texas are not resolved in such a gentlemanly fashion.
Walk into a bank with a gun, no one raises an eyebrow.
Walk into a bank with a mask, no one raises an eyebrow.
Walk into a bank with a gun and a mask, female customers will be reaching into their purses and male customers will be easing over towards cover.

Re: Getting ready to fight coronavirus
I should have stockpiled toilet paper,............then after it rose in value, bartered it for liquor

Most times and in most cases, we're our own worst enemy.....unless you find yourself in a tent with a bear. Then, the bear is your worst enemy.

Re: Getting ready to fight coronavirus
Some people won't fight the coronavirus. In fact, they'll surrender immediately.
I can't wait to hear all the stories about nitwits who thought this was going to be the end of the world and decided to spend every penny they had (and some they didn't have) on something they otherwise would have never bought. As a former LEO, even to this day to I notice 'things and people who aren't quite right'. Take what follows as an example....
Yesterday I pulled into one of our local stop & rob "convenience" stores just off the interstate. This place was mostly filled with rather sketchy looking vehicles, beat up contractor pickups towing equally beat up contractor trailers and one ancient minivan (with peeling clear coat, regulation wood grain appliqués and side-view mirrors that were held on with three different kinds of tape). Clearly, someone was using this as their home away from home.
In amongst all this low rent goodness was a bright red, drop-top, Ferrari F430 and man, it stuck out like a puttana at Sunday services...very out of place.
I decided to watch that car for a minute just to see who belonged to it. Then this balding middle aged guy with new blue jeans and Dark Side of the Moon tee shirt tucked in (because hey, nothing says 'I'm a snappy dresser like tucking those tee shirts in). He is coming out of the store with a slightly younger woman on his arm. There are two doors. A tired looking fella is trying to go in the store and as he opens the door, he has to wait because these two breeze right out instead of opening the door on their side. Entitlement mentality.
She was wearing her finest bright red Peg Bundy outfit with her hair tinted a color that might be found somewhere between plum and red and it looks like she's been standing behind a wind tunnel. Now, I've no issue with age disparity in couples but this woman had a face that was about as attractive as a board fence and a nose that you could plow snow with so I'm guessing she had other hidden skills. She's grinning like a dog that's trying to pass a peach pit because she has this BIG ol' hot pretzel; one that's been hanging in the warmer since Monday...you know...a fresh one. And both of them have a 64oz soda. Normally, I would have placed these two in the minivan but that red-themed outfit and the wind-blown hair were the tipoffs.
Sure enough, these two walk straight over to the Ferrari and, ever the gentleman, he assists her into the car. She's trying to get in it whilst juggling her drink and her pretzel and in the doing of it she's looking like seven 2nd graders on a jungle gym. This woman is going fourteen directions at once. Finally, in frustration, she gives him her drink and her pretzel and letting gravity take over, she manages to get in. He hands her the drink. He hands her the pretzel...and she's looking around in the car. Call me crazy but I don't think that car comes with cup holders. She hands him the pretzel. She hands him the drink and after a minor struggle, she gets out again.
So, they stand there and drink and munch pretzel and admire the car and finally, they put the drinks and what's left of the pretzel on a concrete picnic bench (because that garbage can is sooooo far away) and they get into the car but not before she wipes her hands on the seat of her pants. Really classy.
I couldn't stand it anymore so I got out and headed toward the store, wondering why Darwinism is so darned inefficient. You guessed it...I heard that fella grinding every gear leaving the lot.
Maybe a little pandemic now and then is a good thing?

Re: Getting ready to fight coronavirus
m3a1,
"On target" observation (I expect that from a LEO ) and excellent "wordsmithing" (you would be successful writing books) on that couple...
When I drove a fuel tanker and dropped fuel at various c-stores and truck stops, I would "check out" the customers and it was like watching (in real time) "The People of Walmart" YouTube videos. Always entertaining and disturbing at the same time - won't go in detail because it gets into politics, but not promising after "we" are gone...
What aggravated me a lot was to see trash at the fuel islands within three feet of a garbage can and people who would park at a fuel dispenser, go in and shop and THEN come back out to fuel up. WTF - fuel up, park, then go shopping . This happened a lot at my own Pilot store and I would pull up close, leave the truck idling and "glare" at the offender. Depending on my "mood" that day, I would go into the store, find the offender and ask them to move. Most complied. One time (driving for a private fuel company, not Pilot) I jumped on a young college aged female who blocked the pumps. I yelled to her "Lady, you couldn't park away from the fuel pumps, then go shopping - did you not see this big truck trying to get thru?" She says "I'm sorry" and drove off. I could have bit a steel bar in half...
The "take-away" of the above is how self-centered and "me first" mentality many people have nowadays...
Yes, agree with we need a "cleansing" of society...
