Re: Graves Mountain Rally August 30 - September 3, 2018
We've had a bit of wind in the area over the winter and spring, so the recent focus has been on repairing buildings on the Farm and Lodge, but we are starting to think about trail maintenance...
We will be having a couple of work weekends in May:
May 19th & 20th and May 26th - 28th
The current plan is for the Rockridge Offroad (the jeep club) folks to arrive on Friday each weekend and for them to camp at my cabin at the end of the road.
We are working all day on Saturday and 1/2 day on Sunday.
We will also be having a trail cleanup/MV event/Fireworks/Band on the 4th of July. The current plan is for the Rockridge Offroad (the jeep club) folks to arrive the weekend before the 4th and to camp at my cabin at the end of the road. We will do trail rides/cleanup during the days with ample time to relax each day... Fourth of July, we will ride some and will quit early enough in the day to enjoy the festivities at the Lodge including the band and fireworks. We will depart on the morning of the 5th.
Obviously, the Lodge is available in case somebody isn't into camping...
We will have a few more weekends scheduled later in the Summer, closer to the event date.
Folks who attend a few of the cleanup weekends will be eligible for a reduced registration fee and for a volunteer shirt...
Send me a PM or post here if you are able to attend any (or all) of the work weekends.
Helping out is a great way to preview the trails...

Just a reminder if you are thinking about joining us for our next preview opportunity during the trail cleanup/MV event/Fireworks/Band on the 4th of July.

Fourth of July, we will ride some and will quit early enough in the day to enjoy the festivities at the Lodge including the band and fireworks. We will depart on the morning of the 5th, although folks are welcome to stay longer (the 4th being Wednesday...it makes for an "interesting" time to take off from work for some...).
Let me know (PM or post here) if you plan to join us so that I coordinate space at the cabin or assist with reservations at the Lodge or Lodge campground...etc...

This will astound some of you (RickF), but I have already started the photo collection in my Flickr account for this year's event...
The first album contains 87 photos that I took while we worked on the trails in May...
I'll be adding to the collection as we get things ready for the event...and will add photos from the event after it concludes.

It's been a rough winter/spring...
Major windstorm late winter brought a lot of trees down, peeled the roofs off a lot of buildings, and finished off a barn at the farm that had been damaged by heavy winds a few years ago.
We have also had three heavy rains with over six inches per day...so three time this spring we have had severe flooding as well...

It had water flowing over it during the Bluegrass Festival, and we might have lost a branch or two from a few of the trees around your campsite, but it is basically untouched...rickf wrote:So my favorite spot may be a little different configuration?

Re: Graves Mountain Rally August 30 - September 3, 2018
In addition to the "regular mix" of trucks, we have confirmed that we will have a M20 on site to give the Halftrack a run for its money around the orchards... A DKW Munga will return from last year and the M561 Gama Goat from two years ago will also be returning and they will both be challenging the trails on the mountain... We also have our fingers crossed that we will get both the M201 and XM708 on site for those who are partial to Dodge M37 variants...
The person who is trucking in the M20 has arranged for a friend to trailer his M151 to the event so that he can drive both during the event...
Obviously, we are also expecting a bunch of Jeeps of all eras, HMMWV, five tons, etc...

I just got the M37 floor out of the trailer from last year, I am going to check and see if my motorcycle will fit in there with the mutt. Be nice to do some cruising on the Blue Ridge.

So, it looks as if the after action report was made on the Steelsoldiers website and on the Rockridge Offroad facebook page...
However, I'll just say that the organizer (that's me) had a really good time and hopes that everyone else did...
We'll do it again this year. Same time, same location...
Although you can get to them via the event website, the direct link to all the photos that I could find (I am still looking) and those from past years (still looking for more of those as well) is:

Enjoy!

Oop's, I guess I kind of dropped the ball this year on the rally report. I had some major issues with the RV down and back and completely forgot about it.
