RT246 question

Unread post by Bill, Idaho » December 11th, 2011, 10:57 pm

What might I expect to pay for a good looking, but inoperative, RT246? The owner doesn't know what's wrong with it, and on a related note-who is the go-to dude for working on 246's and 524's?

I can get it pretty cheap, but I would really have a working unit rather than a paperweight.
Since the guy in Reno died a handful of years ago (I forget his name, but he was the nicest guy I've met in quite a few decades, and he seemed to know military radios like the back of his hand), I don't know of anybody that has stepped up and taken over.

Hey Bill,
I've got a radio guy here in Ohio I like a lot, Tony Banks is in KY and many guys swear by Haney in Texas. Local is always better if at all possible.

Bill, There is a guy in Rhode Island named Brown Beezer. He is the guy I traded all of my older stuff to for newer stuff. He is good but yo will have to search for him. I lost his number. And yes, that is his real name.

When you guys are throwing out names it would help if you gave locations and maybe some contact info at the same time.

The RT 246 was the same thing as the 524 except it could be tuned remotely from a control head. They were mostly used in armor and big trucks.

Get it. You can always resell it. Also some of these radios were demolled by just removing a module or two. So unless it's been gutted it will be a good deal.

These were not replacements but command radios. They allowed commanders to work on multiple net quickly.U

I knew it would hit me later. The guy's name was "Buzz" as I recall. He died of cancer several years ago. I bought an RT 524 from him, as well as having him fix another one I already had.
One would think there would be someone out west here somewhere, wouldn't one?
