New paint scheme shot down :(

Unread post by sarmadq » April 16th, 2009, 1:12 pm

The summer is here & it was time to strip the paint off and get a new one done but it seems the plans have to be shelved for a while. After much thinking I chose the following;
Image
Army Aviation's AS-1H Cobra gunships. I just love this scheme.

BUT
It seems the military has eyes, ears & noses all over these days and they shot down my camo scheme just as it was being marked at the painter's. They even took the camo patterns I had printouts of. I'm now expecting further questioning / visits, but thats not an issue.

Its back to the thinking board and the closest I can do is a new finish in OD green, camel-desert, pink, blue, orange or any other color I like but a camo scheme is a definate NO NO.
I guess i'll stick to OD Green :?

I asked my brother (serving in the army) to confirm me the same & he came back with stronger statements saying that its a banned pattern for civilian use & I could face a confiscation.
Now what the hell is this  , guess i should put up a mock 106 to see where that lands me

I need to show these guys the MV moots you guys have ............. tanks, howitzers, ferrets, trucks, the works :!:

If I ever repaint mine, I am going with desert tan and black markings. 8)

Welcome to Pakistan my Friend, The Army owns the nation!
I bet they thought you were going to invade India with the Camo! Oh no with Camo paint the whole nation might go to war! what would happen then!
Man i just can't believe the Army being so superstitious, when i took mine out for a spin, MP stopped me and asked me why did i paint it green? i told him i was going to liberate Kashmir!  , Good thing he understood the humor and told me to turn around and keep it out of Army's sight other wise i'd be in "White Man's Prison (Gora Jail)".

I'm sorry to hear that it is like that over in your country. However there are plenty of fine shades of OD to choose from as well as Strata blue (USAF). Although a strata blue M825 may raise some eyebrows  .

Mutts were painted in a rainbow of colors due to their long life in the military and the various theaters that they served in. There is a paint scheme out there to suit most tastes. Unfortunately, camo & AF blue seem to be out of the question :( . Is it one specific camo pattern (like one the military might be currently using) or is it any camo pattern that is forbidden for civilian use? Some of the shades of OD are kind of sharp and I kind of get the impression that you are converting your M825 into a plain M151A2 so how about a flight line vehicle in red or yellow? I've seen pics of Mutts in service painted in those colors.

WC

Well as for camo, its a no no. Apart from putting in a back seat like that of a simple A2 & a canvas top either siagon-style or IDF, there's nothing else that I'm adding.
That seat is a safety factor for the kids & the canvas a safety factor for me

The desert tan I was talking about is solid, not a como pattern. Something like this.

That Beige is used by Armored Corps and Army Supply Cores in both the southern provinces! :( :!:
Sam i think the only colors you can paint your A2 with would be Orange, Red, Purple and Pink. I'd love want to see a camo composed out of these four.
Kidding Man!
If you do something like the Arctic Camo, which would be in White, Black, Beige with less intensity that would not bother the Army folks!

Yeah, but I'm sticking to my new paint i.e shocking glossy pink ;)
Now wouldn't that be an eye catcher. With $250 for a paint job I think I'll keep changing a shade every quarter.

If the SAS Pink Panther Brigade can have Pink Defenders, so can I have a Pink MUTT.
