That is interesting. I am going to move this to the modification section since it is obviously a mod but I would like a bit more info on it. I already have all the templates and parts to put Suzuki disc brakes on a mutt, why not 12 volt ignition to go with it.

yes, interesting indeed. But I guess only needed in areas of the world where it is hard to get original spares.

Like here? You cannot get an NOS Swiss controls module anymore. They are all made in China now. And they have the same quality as the coils.

well, over here at least the Prestolite kit is available. And we all know for the amount of driving we do, the standard points ignition is always a cheap option. It will simply not fail from one day to another.

The points themselves will not fail but the 50 year old condensors do fail just from age.

I had two new condenser's from Napa fail within two days of each other. Part store condenser's are junk. Bought 3 from Joe's motor Pool. He re engineered them and been running nice for over 3 years.

Few more pictures from owner of conversion. Waiting on make ,model year, .Think he is from Nam, name is HoangPhuc Tran. All I'm getting so far is IC Toyota, IC Suzuki and Mitsubishi from him. You can see in the one picture he notched the housing for the coil pack.

Ok, that makes sense. If I remember correctly he is a member of the Vietnam Jeep club, they were originally part of the Saigon jeep club or 151 club, I forget which it was now. Csmith would remember since he has visited with them several times. Those guys were all on here for a while but after one of the members died after rolling his mutt they kind of drifted off. If you go back about 6 years or so in the history here you will see some of their threads. I will see if I can dredge some of them up later on. We also had some Pakistani members who did all kinds of conversions using Toyota motors and parts.

You have to remember that these people work hard on their vehicles with very little to work with and they are proud of what they have. They are proud to show off their handiwork but they are also not real keen to give away their secrets.

I totally understand, it was kinda like my ride in high school 73- 74 . My 48 CJ2A. SBC. close ratio Muncie 4 speed - 5:38 gears and it was unbeatable .I'm talking racing 69-302 Z-28's, Hemi Road Runners , Super Bee's and even some big block 55's and 57's. All the good fast cars back then. Once I came off the line and jumped 3-4 cars out in front of them most all thought the race was over. If a lot of those would of hooked up it would have been a closer race. Then they would want to race again but I never gave anyone that chance. I'd always tell them I already beat you once ,you want to hang your head down twice . Guys came from all around to race me. No one knew what I had under the hood except small block Chevy . Would run 1/8 mile.

Those tires are a later era than 74. 74 would not have had much choice in big tires. Armstrong Tru-Tracs or Cepek dune tires. I was running the Tru-Tracs on my Bronco with a K spec 289. Those were the years I was really big into off road racing and I was running Baja just about every year. Ran most of the SCORE races as soon as SCORE was started. I was running class 1 buggies and class 7 VW's.
