ball joints and shocks

Unread post by 199th mp » January 3rd, 2013, 5:25 pm

just finished replacing all the shock absorbers, and bushings, as well as the mounting bolts for the rear shocks. that was all very simple, but i had never done ball joints before, so that took a little time to figure out. the top ones are really easy, since the upper wishbone just lifts up out of the way once you turn the old joint sideways and get it clear. the lower ones are a little more difficult, but on all of them, it makes it a lot easier if you drop the large bolt into the casting, and then get the nut started so it won't come out. then you just turn the joint into it's mounting position, drop the bolts through, and reassemble everything you loosened or removed. i also removed the prop shaft u bolts on the brake drum end and moved the shaft out of the way, so it would give me a little more room to remove and replace the lower ball joint. all in all, it didn't turn out to be that big of a deal.
