M151 Oil Leak Repairs
Hey Guys-
This weekend I pulled the Powerpack for repairs to the leaks that were driving me to the bottle. I have the side cover off as well as the drain pan. I noted that the side cover had a strange dent at the seal, caused by what I don't know, so I will be replacing it. Saturn Surplus has them for $12.50 so no biggie.
I have the Powerpack secured the way the TM says to do it. In this configuration it makes accessing the drain pan seals a pain. Does anyone have any ideas? I can see me having a real problem getting the seals to mate up and stay put while I scramble for the screws and drain pan. Being that this is the second time in 30 days that I have pulled the pack out I am really wanting to make sure the job is done complete and correct this time.
Do you think I should put the motor on the engine stand (so I can rotate it upside down) or address the drain pan seal where it is?
Thanks,
Matt-

Thanks Moose... it wasn't though until I cleaned it up and resprayed those engine bay cross members. I'll have it all back together by the end of next weekend.

Well Matt, you've taken it this far, it's not a lot more work or time to pull that trans, put the engine on the stand, and fix that leaky oil pan. It might take a little more time, but I think it will reduce your frustration and help you do a far higher quality job getting the seal put in.mrdibbles wrote: Do you think I should put the motor on the engine stand (so I can rotate it upside down) or address the drain pan seal where it is?
That's my thought anyway. Your mileage may differ.

Re: M151 Oil Leak Repairs
I did not know you had a stand when we talked. I would definitely put it on a stand and flip it over. Although you could probably get away without draining the radiator it is a simple thing to do. You can leave it on the motor though. When you pull the bell housing you will be able to see if the rear main has been leaking also.

Re: M151 Oil Leak Repairs
You know....mutt oil leaks are just it's way of marking it's territory.... If it's not leaking it doesn't have any oil!
There is one nut on a M151 that is very difficult to remove.....
