replacing waterpump

Unread post by Horst » November 15th, 2021, 3:39 pm

I received my new water pump today. For whatever reason it was cheaper to buy it on eBay directly in the US instead at one of the German or European part dealers. And that is with import taxes and shipping. Strange.

Seller claims that this is an US made pump but other than the casting I have no evidence that this is correct.

Anyway, that was just the prologue. Here's my question. I of course have changed out water pumps before. That was with either the power pack removed or with the engine in the car. So removing the brush guard and removing the radiator. Has someone tried to replace the pump with both still installed or is it not worth the effort?

It is no big deal. I did mine a long time ago and I don't remember having any issues other than the interference with the top timing cover bolt head. Some pumps will just barely touch that bolt head and if you don't see it they will leak like a sieve. All you need to do is grind just a tiny bit off the pump housing where it hits the bolt. The only place you would have a problem is taking the bolts out of the fan and I am pretty sure there is plenty of room between the fan and the radiator.

Interesting, I have never run across their brands but I will be looking for them in the future.
