Tail light issues

Unread post by agwrangler » January 22nd, 2021, 9:30 pm

Ok, this one has me stumped, as I traced all of the wiring and made sure everything was plugged where it was supposed to be....

My taillights work. When I hit the brakes while the lights are on, the right side brake works, but the left side light goes completely out. I thought either a short in the light, or a bulb, so i took another NOS light I had laying around and swapped the harness to it. Same issue. Hit the brakes, the whole light goes out. Before I deep dive into the manuals all weekend, anyone ever see this before?!

Bad ground on that light housing, It is grounding through all of the other bulbs over to the other light. Is the body freshly painted? You need star washers on the mounting studs at the body.

Well Rick, that is exactly what it was. One of the mounting holes that's molded into the housing was cracked and loose ,and was just flopping around, but you couldn't tell since the other one was still tight. I swapped out another NOS light and tightened both bolts down, and no problem, all brake and tail lights work. Wouldn't have guessed that one was busted in there like that. Oh well.
Thanks again to the community for throwing out ideas to solve problems!!
(now if i could just find out how to solve some woman problems, I would be golden!)

Ask TJ about the woman problems, If he somehow manages to keep his around with him dragging all that junk home everyday then he knows something we all don't know.
