It's interesting to note that in the center pic that mutt has the supplied protection armor kit underneath with the 30 cal machine guns and in the other pics the armor plate is missing although it looks like the mounts are still there, The m60s appear to be in the last pic, again, without the bottom armor.

Thanks for pointing that out! We are considering replicating the under armor but with something a bit more manageable weight wise.

Quite a bit of difference between the two - maybe two different or perhaps two different time periods?
Unfortunately no other pictures are available to figure it out.

Have a nice day!

Thanks Rick and Surveyor for the pics and the links. There are some really far out MUTT pics on the m151 website link!!
The MUTT with the mini-gun and the 30mm grenade launcher sure does bump it up to the next level!!!!

I'll certainly add that to my databank!

Have a good one!

Here's something I stumbled across yesterday as I stared at the screen and pressed buttons during the latest version of House Arrest-Uk.

It's only one page but it does have some facts and figures plus information about the composition of the armor.

If you want to duplicate the armor use aluminum. So much lighter. Useless as armor in the form you will normally buy but unless you plan on actually going into combat the looks would suffice. Once painted nobody will know unless they check it with a magnet. And when you think about it, that armor was designed for the land mines and RPGs of 50 years ago. A modern IED would shred a M-151 into millions of tiny pieces and put them in permanent earth orbit! Armor and all.

Just curious - anyone attend any of the gun truck reunions and take some pics of the inside of an armored M151?
How about this - does anyone know of a MUTT owner that has re-created a gun jeep? Any info would be appreciated as I need some interior pics: bracketry, radio location, antenna(s), gun mounts, etc.. etc..

Thanks!

Great idea Rick! We want it to look similar to the real thing without the weight!! Based on Mutt Guru's find of an additional 350 pounds of armor well above the center of gravity would make even more trouble!

Go to Steel Soldiers and contact Papabear, He and his group are big into the gun trucks and have built a couple of perfect replicas. They may have info on the mutts?

Just curious if anyone following this thread knows if the 1919's on the jeep California Dreamer are actually M37s and not 1919A4s?

Thanks!
