MUTT Parts Prices - 1963

Unread post by Gettysburg63 » August 16th, 2020, 5:26 pm

I was re-shelving my MUTT manual collection and wanted to share a worn copy of a -20P from December 1963. It was either the Parts Room copy in a civilian run motor pool or the Motor Sergeants copy. It was marked up with NSN's and part number changes for additions and deletions and had prices of select parts noted. A type written note on ordering priority parts was dated Aug 66 and taped inside the front cover. A lot of you may not realize that a unit had spending limits on each vehicle that declined every year. A new vehicle could be allowed 100% of its cost to repair it. The same vehicle 10 years down the road may be allowed only 10% of its original cost. So if your 10% 5-ton blew an engine, then the cost of repair would probably exceed the cost allowed on the vehicle, so off it goes to the Parts and Cannibalization point, where every could pick parts off of it at no coast to the unit's budget. You would then requisition a replacement 5-ton to be put on the unit books. That is why there are prices in this TM. Enjoy. Kevin.

Carb, 15.47
Battery 11.20
Engine gas assembly, which I am thinking is Engine, Gas, assembly. 873.00!!!

Sounds fantastic but I will bet if you figure in inflation from 63 to now the prices will be pretty close to what they are now. Sadly.

The Motor Pool section of my company used to frequent the Can point at Ft Hood. There was no cost to the unit, but we still had to make out a parts requisition card for whatever we scrounged. That meant the Battalion Motor Officer's signature appeared quite frequently on the cards that he might not have "remembered" he signed.....

Kevin, how about scanning a copy and posting it to the Manuals and/or G838 Wiki pages?

The wiki pages have not been restored as of yet. I am working on it and have sent the old files off to Ken for updating and correction. This is all going to have to be put in manually so if anyone wants to volunteer to help.............................
