holley Carburetor carb specs

Unread post by Mark » August 31st, 2019, 2:07 pm

Ok, I am looking for float drop, float level specs for the holley carb I have. Those are the only 2 specs I know to check on a carb.
On the drop, it was 1 7/16", float level was 7/16". I had these specs long time ago.The drop would make sure enough gas was getting in the reservoir, the level would shut off the gas in the needle&seat.Boy, it's been a long time since I reviewed this info!!
I tried the internet, no go.Maybe I better look at the needle and seat to see if there is a ring on the needle as that would still let gas in the carb?
Seems to me I could put the top back on, get a rubber syringe, squirt gas in the feed tube til I can't, then that means the needle and seat is working ok.(not letting gas in chambers thus too rich mixture--black smoke?)

You will need the TM9 2320-218-34 Jan 1972 edition to get the info you need on the Holley carburetor.

Thanks rickf, I will probably end up buying a zenith carb from the outfit you told me about(nofar), but I am curious why the black exhaust/it wouldn't run like it is supposed to.

Have you checked your fuel pressure? 3.5-5 lb.s and 5 lbs on an old Holley is probably pushing it. Could also be a sunk float.
