The part number was for an A1 and from what I commented it was from 66 so it came out before the A2 was even thought about. The A2 may or may not have the same number but it is the same part from what I am told.

My friend Larry sent me some photos following his experience with trying to install a new horn button on his A2. The first one he purchased had the correct NSN but when he came to fit it....it wouldn't do so because it was larger than the one he was replacing. Eventually he found one on offer at a swap-meet and this one had the same NSN but an earlier part number....and an original packaging too.

Here are photos of the two, side by side. The smaller one fits perfectly whereas the big one is definitely too big and looks like something off of a Deuce. The big one also looks like a re-make....... so beware when you search for the correct one.

Well, my horn button came today 2590-973-3186. DA-20-113-AMO-08754 (T) Dated A-5/66. OR maybe A-1/66. This is for my 62.
No snap ring or anything else came in the USGI Sealed factory box. After I took my old one out, it just snaps or pops in/out in the ring in the steering wheel. But BAD news though, the steering column plastic broke. So, I might have to use JD WELD and hopefully it will work. I can't believe there is not a TM for this out there. (Banging Head).

Looks like the A2'a had the snap ring only.

How do you break the plastic on the column under the wheel trying to put a horn button in on top of the wheel?

I'm guessing he means he broke the top lip where the horn snaps in. Mine does not have a snap ring either. It snaps into the plastic. Unfortunately, that plastic has probably become brittle with age and more likely to break than give when pushing the new one in?

In the TM-20, page 2-173, is the horn installation. But maybe he was talking about the plastic repair of the steering wheel/column.
But I am sure they didn't repair it, they just got a new replacement

Bingo, That plastic becomes like glass after almost 60 years.
I can't believe I am the first to have this issue.

Armyjeepparts has them on sale for less than $30 plus shipping right now. Of course you may still be dealing with age.

Hambone, I love it. lol.
Surveyor, thanks for tip. I just ordered one from them and the clip. Although Mine did not have a clip for the horn, I ordered one anyway.

Well, my horn is trying to beep, cleaned all grounds. Still makes little to no noise. So, I bought a new one today on the internet. :D

Did you try hooking a ground wire to the horn itself to see if it beeps?
