M151A1 contract number and delivery date

Unread post by Michael D » March 8th, 2017, 10:01 pm

I have a 1965 M151A1 that is missing the data plate. I've had this mutt for 30 plus years and have used it extensively around here on my property. I have retired and decided it's time to give some TLC which it deserves. It had a data plate at one time. I have a title with a serial number of 2J8879. I want to put another data plate on it and am looking for information such as the contract number and delivery date. I would appreciate any help anyone can give.

Michael, Ken should be able to zero in on a precise delivery date, but I can tell you that a serial number of 2J 8879 is in Ford contract number DA 20-113-AMC (Army Material Command) 02787 T (Three Year Buy) beginning 15 Feb 64 for 37,500 vehicles. There were six blocks of serial numbers for this contract. Yours falls in the third block that runs from 2J4643 to 2J9999. Good luck on restoration. Kevin.

Hello Flippy.....

if your vehicle is a standard M151A1 (not an A1C or M718 ambulance version), then here's what it would have been:-

MFR: Ford Motor Company
Contract: DAAE06-68-C-0001
Delivered: 8/68
If delivered to Army, would have had a hood number in the 02 Exxxx range.

These final-production A1 models came with a 60-amp alternator, not the earlier 25-amp generator. if yours has the alternator, be careful.....alternators are easily damaged and expensive to replace.

Kind regards....

Ken
Thank you very much yes it’s a standard Army A1, I’m doing a complete restoration on it and from everything that I’ve read and seen under all the paint jobs is original Army green. This is the same type of M151 I got my first military license on in Germany when stationed in Wildflecken

Flippy,

When were you stationed in Wildflecken? I'm an army brat... my Dad was stationed there from June 83 - August 86. Aw those were the days. The Kruezberg bier, the German-American fests, the cold winters! Ha.

Prost!
