Sorry bub. I didn't think it would even last at that low of a price.

That's a mighty fine 1/4tn!
That bed looks great! As a matter of fact the whole truck looks to be in very good shape! The body is fairly thick gauge metal, thicker than a regular truck bed. No need to beef up the bed, just prep n paint! Good 2 part primer and industrial enamel is what you need.
You will hear alot of boooing and hissing if you use that crappy bed liner stuff around here partner.!
It will rot your jeep from the inside out. Water will get under it, NO DOUBT!
New top? Have fun removing the white powder and 303 UV guard is the bomb & I had good luck with rubbing alcohol getting rid of most of the white packing powder.
The jeep is safe, the driver usually causes the "rollover problem". I had a slightly lifted Samurai for years. Never rolled it on or off road.

Re: My 1967 M151-A1 restoration
I'm 50% done with the sanding of the floors and other interior parts. Took out the gas tank to find zero rust and rot. I've already picked up the quality rustoleum professional primer in a can. Also is the exterior paint something I could have a local paint shop mix up or do I need to buy surplus mil spec paint? Anyone have any use for a very stiff and dry/cracking top? I'm guessing I should just toss it out but one man's trash could be another man's treasure.

Quite a few posts on paint here in the restoration section.
TM9Ordnance.com and Rapco.com are a few paint suppliers.

Hey guys, I have a chance to buy m151 "steel" wheels according to the Craigslist ad. How will I know the dif between mags and steels? I have a chance to get all 4 in non rusted condition for $100? Good deal?

Take a magnet and see if it sticks
There is a difference in the holes but magnet test is foolproof.

Re: My 1967 M151-A1 restoration
I guess that's my question. I really would like the mags but are the steels worth the $100? I've seen some steels on ebay going for $100 buy it now. I already have mags on my mutt, don't think I need steelies do I?
Re: My 1967 M151-A1 restoration
If you are actually using it I would get the steel wheels and keep the mags for show. The mags will corrode easily and break easily if you hit something. I think that may have been why they stopped using them. Front line used to sell four NOS steels for 100.00.

Re: My 1967 M151-A1 restoration
It's my understanding that Mag wheels were introduced to minimize the weight of the vehicle.
In service there was corrosion and cracking.
Finally the steel wheel replaced them.
As Rick said if you are going to run it hard assy of steel wheels makes sense.
I bought a new set of four at Aberdeen last year for $100.00.
Wasn't worth sandblasting the ones I had at home for that price!
Just make sure that the ones you are looking at are not too damaged or rusty.

Re: My 1967 M151-A1 restoration
There is a very recognizable hole pattern to tell the difference. Easy way is steel wheels have round holes, mag rims the holes aren't round. The Mags were used early to meet the maximum weight requirement for the vehicle, but they weren't very durable so the steel rims were substituted after the vehicle design had been accepted and weight no longer mattered. As for the price, for new steel rims maybe $20 or $25 isn't bad, I bought a set of 5 steel rims at the Aberdeen show some yrs back for a dollar at the end of the show auction. 4 were like new one had some rust. I have a spare set of 5 blasted and primed steel rims sitting in the basement, but shipping is the killer. If you don't need them right away, wait til a cheap set presents itself. Just to throw salt in that wound, same auction saw a NOS set of vinyl seat backs sell for $12.

My nos vinyl top just arrived today. Should I expect any difficult stretching or will this top go on easy?
Re: My 1967 M151-A1 restoration
it will go on with no difficulty, actually, most of the vinyl tops i have seen are kind of loose.Maine Mutt wrote:My nos vinyl top just arrived today. Should I expect any difficult stretching or will this top go on easy?

Before you unroll/unfold it lay it in the sun for half a day so it softens up. Remember, its been folded up for a very long time and warming it will help prevent damage to to the clear vinyl.
Have fun removing the white packing powder.
303 vinyl UV protective spray will help keep the sun from fading it too!

Re: My 1967 M151-A1 restoration
Hey guys, another question here, from the pics I've posted can anyone help me id the paint type I have? It would appear to be a USMC m151a1 but I don't want to order all the paint without the info. Of course I can paint it any type, but I would prefer to replicate this color for a fresh look. I've seen all the dif sites to order paints, I just need the color code. Thanks!
