Doesn't look like too much rust on the jeep. Looks like a nice find...

Re: Starting Restoration on M151 106mm Rifle Carrier
I had one but decided to leave it original, I'm now trying to decide between restoring this one or just using the parts off it and putting it on another I'm looking at that is basically rust free (another 1962, but not the all original I have).
The piece of armour is the top hull from an Ontos at Brent's. The A1C pictured was a good deal,in my opinion at least, and would cut out a lot of time finding items, plus it frees up some parts I previously collected so I can help out a friend with his resto.

mrdibbles wrote:For the name... my vote is not putting a name there at all. To me the barrel of that weapon says enough. For sure the first recommendation suggested would be inappropriate... this is 2013 and there's no clear rationale that can justify racism. It would be different (perhaps) if you sanded the barrel down and that was what was present but even then I'd just photograph it and talk to what was there, with friends and with folks at shows, versus painting it for all to see. Your Jeep though and its a free country.
Thinking about it, I agree, I'll more than likely just go with "Sat Cong" on the barrel, everyone can support that, unless they are commies.. I did see a picture of a Quadmount .50 at a fire base (ground mount) with the name "Slope Slayer" painted on the front shield and got the name from it.

it has some rust on the frame rail running just behind the wheel on both sides under the floors, but nothing too serious.lpcoating wrote:Doesn't look like too much rust on the jeep. Looks like a nice find...

If you need any detail photos while putting this together I have access to this m151a1c
I wish it was mine, I have driven it for a few hours, and helped change out the motor. It is fun to drive, the waves and looks you get from people.

Thank you very much, will more than likely need your assistance. One thing that I know I'll need is the info on the two steel pieces that go over the ammo (sort of steps).

Re: Starting Restoration on M151 106mm Rifle Carrier
Was wondering did the M151A2 RR armed versions also have the "helper" springs under the rear like the M151A1s did?

Re: Starting Restoration on M151 106mm Rifle Carrier
those are the ones. I only see one major part missing from the unit, which is the front wheel stop and clamp. She is very very nice. I'm going to put a VRC-47 in mine, as I have all the parts and pieces, just never had one I wanted to mount it in.
Thanks again for the link to the pictures.

I can get you some detailed photos of the parts. It might take a week or so.
I wish it was my jeep! As I side note when I was 17 I had an 1968 m151a1 I bought it for $500 drive it hard all summer and sold it for $400 (biggest mistake I have ever made). I sold it to Mark Burgess in Maine, he restored it and sold it to someone at the Weare Rally and it has never been seen again. I would love to find an m151 in the condition of the one you posted. I have access to all the parts to build one, just need a body.

Re: Starting Restoration on M151 106mm Rifle Carrier
The owner of the m151a1c pictures told me the 2.5 gallon can was only used on USMC m151a1c's because the usmc found that the 5 gallon cans got in the way. He said he spent years trying to find that one.
