Looking through previously posted images, closest I found in-country example for a 2E was this 2E 2xxx.

That has always been an issue with me, picking those numbers out of a hat. What happens when you g to register it and someone else has the number? I already know the answer because I had it happen with a motorcycle, both owners bikes are impounded until the real serial number is determined. (Luckily it was mine.) Imagine that happening with a M151 with no possible way to prove what number is real. It could be that neither owner gets their vehicle back unless you admit you pulled the number out of the air. No idea what the consequences would be with that one. Now if you are just using that number as a show piece on the hood and it has nothing to do with the official registration then there is not problem.

It is a gauntlet I may have to walk here in Wisconsin. From what I have researched I can get a number for this buy using research and with it I can get a Title with the number If it has not been used or the vehicle has not been titled before under any other number that is on the MUTT. Nice thing is it is old BUT I will have to have it inspected which might make it tough.when finished. I may just sell the plate and title that I now have. 2E 5671, or 2E 5506 would work, we will see.I take it the 2E 2 would be ford and a 2e 5 would be a Kaiser? I would like to use both as hood number and on the title.

What most people do is use whatever they need to use on the title to get it legal and put whatever numbers they want on the vehicle. There is nothing that says the numbers on the vehicle have to match the title unless it is a state like Texas where the hood numbers ARE the registration. In any other state the numbers painted on the vehicle are just that, Paint. As an example, Mine is a 64 but it is titled as a 67 since that is the data plate that had the title. I will take it since it is impossible to get a title for a M-151 in NJ. You do what you have to do.

Yah thats wisconsin too. But we do not require stamped in frame or body numbers either like some states do. Kinda middle of the road here. A plate with nomeclature and a number will suffice. We also do not require a lic plate to be shown on old military vehicles just need to be carried and shown upon law enforcement request. I have had a 1942 plate on my GPW for years now no problems.
