Enlarged data plate MV display sign

Unread post by m3a1 » November 2nd, 2020, 10:32 pm

Hello all.

At some point in the past there was a company that made enlarged replicas of data plates, for MV display.

I can't seem to find them.

Any leads appreciated.

Cheers,
TJ

I came across this old post and wanted to offer up that I am making quality display signs for Military Vehicles. I made mine about 10 years ago and recently other club members asked about making one for them. These are made to showcase your jeep’s history and specifically data plate information (that's what everyone wants to see right?) The sign includes logos, vehicle markings, and data plate information. I can make them for MB, GPW, M38, M151, and more. Pretty much any vehicle you want!

I was reading that thread on the 503. Someone called out that the "3" is backwards and the replay was that the original was the same way. Interesting...

He is a member of the Dixie Division, the AL affiliate of the MVPA. He reached out to me as President of the GA MVPA to put a blurb in our newsletter about his service. I have not seen and numbers or what material the signs are made out of, but the data plate information looks sharp. At club events, if each vehicle had an identical sign like this it would make for a very professional looking display. I'd suggest some way to keep them off the ground, some sort of short easel or stand them up on wooden ammo crates so they could be read easier. I may pursue having our club co op with vehicle owners on getting these signs made as it makes the club look better, IMO.

I've already received an email from him which raised a few more questions. Will share important details and a synopsis of what one must provide to get a job done. Once I get a full picture of what he needs I will share those details but I won't be repeating any price quotes. One thing that is already notable, it does appear these signs are constructed on boards of very good quality....something that will last for a good long time.

More to come.

Cheers,
TJ

Gents, I have received two prompt replies to my inquiries from Mr. Michael Newman, the first of which contained another image of his work (Jeep related) and the second, the beginnings of what could eventually become a display sign for my Gama Goat, including a nice clean image of a Gama Goat data plate. I have no idea where people come up with this stuff but, by appearances, he has some mad skills! Hoping he can come up with an equally good image of the Transportation Data Plate which is more what I'm looking for. Bottom line is, I'm really liking what I'm seeing so far.

Anyway, that working image prompted me to ask MORE questions of him but thus far (and without one red cent changing hands) Mr. Newman is handling this like I'm the most important thing he has to do at the moment. Pretty cool, if you ask me. Hope he keeps it up.

Cheers,
TJ

I finally ordered my sign after many revisions. Mr. Newman was very patient, attentive to the project and artfully massaged his usual template so as to provide me with a custom sign with additional space for text. For example, I did not want my name on the sign as the owner, chiefly because this vehicle will someday belong to someone other than me and I thought the sign would be value added to the Gama Goat (which it certainly will be). I also asked for a transportation data plate rather than the vin plate because I felt it would be more informative to the casual observer who really doesn't care what my vehicle's serial number is. Mr. Newman also added shading to the images which really makes them stand out.

Feast your peepers on THIS!

Tuesday December 8th and the big sign is already here and let me just say, this thing is absolutely fabulous. I chose an aluminum backer and it is heavy, firm and not at all flexible. All I can say is, this sign a fabulous value and well worth every penny. It arrived professionally wrapped and very securely boxed. Someone really thought this one out.
